They are making more pods that will handle things other than salt & pepper. If what you want to grind is not oily I think it will work in either of the pods that come with the set. you'll find all sorts of info in the packaging

Q: what is the size of the grinder without pod?

The grinder (without pod) is approximately 9" high and 3 ¼" around at base. When you push the pod into grinder, it adds about ½" to the height. The one I have is battery operated; however, it does not appear to be a difference in the size with the rechargeable type. I think it is a great item! Hope this helps.
