Who: Absolute Beginner to Woodwinds What: Eastrock Alto Saxophone Color: Black and gold For: Leisure, Relaxing, Vibing, Curiosity, Expression The instrument came in a beat-up box, however, the case did it's duty in protecting the saxophone. It came with all that was described, however, the gloves are a questionable addition and the neck strap not comfortable to me. I have found nylon neck straps/harnesses pull at my facial hair, so I invested in a leather one instead. The mpc protector pads and the moisture absorber rod are a couple of the more interesting additions that I have used consistently(Yes, I have a handful of mouthpieces [mpc]). I have heard moisture absorbers can shed into the instrument, but I have not experienced this thus far, 3 months in. Even though I don't use the mpc, reeds, and ligature supplied, this has been a great buy! I would have gladly traded those items for a swab kit, lol. No issues with durability, but I do baby it until I wail, lol. Pads are in good condition, except for maybe the one for the octave key, but I will see-- it looks off-center. No issues with sound, but who am I? This is the main reason I didn't try to adjust the octave pad. I did have issues figuring out transposition which led me to believe the sax was out of tune though, lol. As a final note: After three months of use, I feel a good swabbing kit, and using it after every session, is essential for any Sax. The gloves and alcohol wipes could be used for hand print maintenance (degredation of the finish, etc), but I figure the time spent meticulously cleaning the instrument is not worth the effort... time will tell, of course. Concluding thoughts: I am currently exploring different ligatures, but just be aware that even some of the cheap mpcs can create a beautiful sound (which I found recently with a cheap Libretto mpc) with a decent setup, strong embouchure, proper form, and practice! Since I am new to woodwinds across the board, I did quite a bit of research, including splurging on a subscription to bettersax to help with my journey. Between that website, YouTube videos, and practice, this instrument has become a great addition to enriching my life. For reference: My go-to setup for this Alto: D'Addario D6M mpc, Rovener Dark Ligature, VanDoren Reeds, usually Java Red 2/2.5 but digging the 2.0 ZZs as of late. I use green leaves to help with any sticking issues when on the stand, as well as not eating or drinking sugary product before/during sessions.

This saxophone is pretty good and you get what you pay for. I've been playing the saxophone for 7 years, and I noticed that it was playing quite flat and wasn't in tune. Through my music teacher, I learned the mouthpiece is angled so the reed sticks to the mouthpiece. My teacher recommended that I buy a Yamaha mouthpiece, and it worked. Now, it plays in perfect tune. With this addition, the saxophone costs around $600, which is still quite affordable. On top of all of the black saxophone looks amazing. Edit: I've been playing this saxophone for 4 months now, and it is absolutely perfect. I still get compliments on the colour. I believe buying a Yamaha mouthpiece was the way to go and would highly recommend anyone who purchases this product to do so.
