A very delightful journey
As a person that lived in Santa Barbara, I was delighted to read her descriptions of the old city. The characters are delightful and I could only wish that I could have know them. The plot it's self is interesting and as I read, I could see how easy it would be for the military to cover up the murder and maybe even make and innocent man pay for the dirty deed. As an army brat, it is too familiar a story.Anne has pulled me through the city of the past and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I am disappointed that An Unfortunate Incident at Castle Rock is not yet out to read.

so beautifully descriptive- almost like a Tolstoy-like written image
I bought this book at Chaucer in Santa Barbara. The way this book is written with its pithy condensed emotional and psychological nuances all packed into a single sentence is astounding... so beautifully descriptive- almost like a Tolstoy-like written image, but actually better because it is personally captivating, not just descriptive. The psyche of the characters captures what we all hunk and feel at times - and reveals even some of those frames of mind wise have difficulty nailing for ourselves. This style of writing is poetry in motion with a clarity of thought that flows without effort. This is a must read!!! Santa Barbararians will find it additionally interesting as Neal Graffy, the famous Santa Barbara historian has weaved accurate details of Santa Barbara that provide a fascinating glimpse into SB at the turn of the century. What a gem of a book!!
