The Protector (Game of Chance Book 1)

This is a wonderful story. One to escape away from the stress and strains of life. Full of great emotions, intrigue, drama, feelings and warmth, with great romantic scenes. Riggs Chappy was a guy who had been captured and went through a terrible time of torture, entrapment and abuse. He is not alone but with his three delta comrades who are also going through the same hell. They all decided if, they were rescued they would remain together and set up a business that didn’t involve weapons , bodyguarding, or security. They finish up in Newton a small backwater, as tree specialists. Riggs like solitude, and has a cabin in the middle of the forest. He is thereto have a vacation, when a massive snow storm hits. He is nice and cosy whilst the storm persists. He hears scrapping and finds a dog outside his cabin. The dog appears very thin but wants Chappy to follow him!! Carlise is escaping the world due to circumstances, of fear and the need to get away. She follows her nose! Gets involved in a slight road accident in said storm, and finishes up following the fog. The story continues and is full of great characters , moments and a wonderful flowing well written story. There is a HEA, no cliffhanger, but hopefully as the series progresses we will learn more of these two, and the dog. Well worth 5 stars. A great experience.

I am so glad the team are rescued and go on to start the business they dreamed up in captivity, they have all proven how strong and resilient they are, even if some have healed better than others. Riggs not only finds and saves his perfect woman, but she rescues him right back...or maybe it's Baxter that rescues them, so they can save him. They create such a cute little family, all damaged by their experiences, all wary but all craving someone to love and to be loved in return...even if they don't realise it.The unconditional acceptance and lack of pressure or expectation allow them all to relax, heal and form love and trust that is unbreakable.A beautiful start to the series and available on Kindle Unlimited...bonus!

I just couldn’t not leave a review! This book is amazing. Somethings were quite repetitive tbh, however, the sweet romance between Carlise and Riggs was just breath taking. No spoiler alerts here - read on to experience beautiful love.

This is another fabulous story from Susan Stoker, slightly slower paced from her previous books but equally riveting. I loved how Baxter is such an intrinsic part and hopefully he’ll make more appearances in future books. Susan’s heroines are strong characters even when in dicey situations which I love . Maine sounds a beautiful part of the world and is now on my bucket list. Looking forward to the next book.

This book gripped me immediately and I loved the characters in the book. It was also refreshing to read about a different background that the characters are situated in the story. I really enjoyed the connection between Riggs and Carlise and their canine angel. I can't wait to read the next book from the author!

Just love this book. What a great writer susan Stoker is. I could not put it down, stayed up until 2 pm, and now I am sad because I have finished it. I can not wait until cal story comes out. This book is a must-read

Wow!What an amazing first book to begin the Game of Chance series. Love the chemistry and instant bond between Riggs and Carlisle. You get snippets of personality and hints of what’s to come from the other character. Susan Stoker does it again.
