I don't know why i continue to buy these annual 'price guides.' Habit, I guess. After 30 years of collecting(and always learning) one constant remains within the hobby.. ANY train is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it at the time of sale. A decent reference book but prices certainly don't reflect online/auction, private sale, etc, at all. Still-4 stars as its certainly worthwhile for a newbie to have as a baseline-especially at a show.

I use this item often, especially if I am buying an older item or bidding on eBay. It lets me know the value of an item and whether the item is priced too high and will govern my maximum bid or an item, The book is laid out in a way that is easy to use to get the value of items I may want to bid on,

Got this as a gift for my dad a while ago. He loved it since he is into collecting model trains. This was an update to the one he had. But now it's time for a new one!

Missing a number of important items, including what had been included in prior editions in a category called “Modern Tinplate” which no longer exists. I contacted Kalmbach and was given a runaround, no answers, and no solutions.

I've recently become interested in Lionel trains. This guide has been invaluable as I learn about market values. I wish I could find an on-line searchable version.

As a longtime collector of vintage Lionel Trains I like to keep up with the market for them. This book covers the entire Lionel era from Pre-War all the way to current production and let's you know what others are paying for specific items.

This was a gift for my husband who is trying to sell his trains. Kept the borrowed library copy so long, it was obvious he needed his own.
