I much prefer polished honing steels to those with groves on them. And I like long honing steels like this 14" one because it makes sharpening so effortless. This is a superb quality steel at a very reasonable price.

This is a superb butcher steel. The price is so low it is hard to believe. Compares to German-made equivalents costing seven times as much.

For how little it costs its a damn good steel!

The polished steel was practically useless for sharpening. I ended up ordering another steel with a little more texture.

This type of smooth polished rod has no texture and is used to keep a blade edge aligned without removing any metal. Best to use only light pressure to avoid rolling the blade edge.
