I am not very good at carving pumpkins- this made it easy and they look good.
I used this kit with my 10 ear old and 6 year old.Usually, when we carve pumpkins, my children give up easily because they are tired. I end up doing most of the carving and have an aching arm the next day. This kit made the process much easier.Yes, they look like giant cookie cutters. No, they are not the most sturdy of "cookie cutters" but they do the job. None of the cutters used became bent, but I could see it happening. My kids had a great time picking out the shapes and creating their pumpkin masterpieces. For my kids, it was a little difficult to hold the cutter in place with one hand and hammer with the other. We solved this by having an adult hammer until the cutter was in place. It also helped to lay the pumpkin on it's side on a chair (on a towel for cushion) so that my youngest would have better leverage. It was helpful to have a needle nose pliers and a spoon. I used both to push the stencil through the pumpkin when it got stuck ( our pumpkins were thicker then the cutter). It was also slightly difficult (but not impossible) to get the piece of pumpkin out of the inside of the stencil. That is where the pliers also came in handy. I gripped the stencil with the pliers and used the spoon handle to push the pumpkin piece through. I wonder if somehow cooking the pumpkin (boiling water or baking in the oven) would soften it up enough to easily get the pumpkin piece out....There are enough pieces to get creative with faces, or to create a pattern (my son did a video game themed pumpkin- it is very abstract....).I am not very good at carving pumpkins- the paper stencils are too complicated for me. This kit made carving much easier and more enjoyable.I am very glad I made this purchase!

9.5/10 Would Buy Again
Let me start by listing the pros and cons:Cons:- It can be a little tricky to figure out how to make a face- If you don't plan placement properly, some chunks between features can come loose- Fitting the pieces back in the box is a puzzle (but not a very hard one)Pros:- Easy for kids/drunk adults to use (they lay out the face, a (sober) adult uses the rubber mallet)- Clean lines- Quick carving without the knives- Sturdy- Lots of options for what the face looks likeAll of those problems are pretty easily dealt with, and this makes creating a classic jack-o-lantern wildly easier! I bought these for a pumpkin carving party, and ended up banging out about 3 pumpkins in 20-30 minutes, including scooping time (and I'm a rigorous scooper). I found after the first pumpkin that I could deal with the chunks coming loose problem by leaving the cutters in place in the pumpkin until I was finished. I also recommend putting your hand behind the cutter while you hammer it in so it has a little more stability, and going in with a knife or carver and angling the edges afterwards so they look neater. I haven't tried putting these in the dishwasher, but they're only mildly inconvenient to wash by hand. 10/10 would buy again.

Almost perfect
I would have loved to give this product a 5 star rave review but after using it with 5 elementary-preschool aged children 4 is the best i can muster, the concept is amazing each kid was able to pick the eyes nose /mouth they wanted and within a minute or two their pumpkin was complete which is fantastic for young kids with no patience or carving skills their were no cuts or close calls, with that being said their were a couple of semi fatal flaws one these are not super sturdy using a rubber mallet as suggested still led to a couple of bent cutters. Also with almost all of them we had to pull them back out with pliers that led to few few more dinks in the metal they could really use some sort of handle or grip spot and lastly the mouths were so large that they ended up a bit bent from getting pounded in a bit crookedThe moral of this story is I would buy these again in a heartbeat given the amount of convenience they added to our pumpkin party but I also would have paid double for heavy duty steel punches* In pics. The punch ones are very clean and professional looking in comparison to the kids who needed to freehand

Best pumpkin faces, without a lot of work.
Must have a rubber hammer. I missed this when I ordered the product. I only had a regular hammer. When I went to use the product. You can't hit the pumpkin cutter with the hammer in a normal position. (head) To small. I was able to make it work by turning the head of the hammer sideways and covered it with a wash cloths, so I would not damage the pumpkin when I hit the pumpkin cutter on the pumpkin. This worked. You had a wider area to punch the cutter through the pumpkin.Next time I will use a rubber mallet and you will have success right away. Maybe still cover with a cloth, so you don't hit the pumpkin cutter as hard and damage the pumpkin. But you don't have to.Supervision for kids is needed. Because they are hitting stuff with a mallet. I used this product with my 3 granddaughters.(14,9,4) The older 2 could hit the cutters. (Supervision.) (Safety first.)(Easier to pound the cutter through if you have a person hold the pumpkin steady.) The youngest had fun laying out the various pumpkin face cutters on the table and deciding on which pumpkin face she wanted. What is nice is the pumpkin cutters clean up easily after use and we can reuse them next year. The faces turn out very nice. The kit comes, with the pumpkin cutters( a good amount), instructions and face lay outs for the pumpkins or you can completely create your own pumpkin face.Overall it cut the pumpkins very quickly and cleanly. *****
