Lucifer Rising

This is the first cd where the music is written for Rob and not Messiah. The firs track is an all new single "Lucifer Rising" and it totally shreds. Fast paced and gallops like the old school stuff. Rob has a very powerful voice in this song and he mixes it all from lows to even, yes, highs! I never knew he could do that because he's always been doom and gloom and this seems more like a power metal song. It'll get ya pumped. "White God" is just a typical Candlemass doom song which is still good but not much to tell about it. Also, a re-recording of "Demon's Gate" minus the effects and doom voice. Good tune and Rob sounds solid on it. He's definitely the best replacement you can get for this band and quite frankly, a new rebirth of this band that really needed it. Messiah was a killer vocalist and the original sound of C-mass but Rob brings much more to the table and a new twist on the C-mass journey into oblivion. Rob is one of the most talented vocalists around and is going to catapult this band into a higher plane of greatness. This is an "ep" but has 9 tracks of live stuff from Athens so you can hear the new stuff live and the old classics done by Rob which are all done to the "T." Hells yeah. Pick it up. Cheap. Collector's item.

Crap. Bought this album thinking it was a new one - lots of Live tracks, reissued...disappointed when I found out...but guess what, it's AMAZING!!There's a sneak peak of two songs off the new album coming up in May 2009 ("Lucifer Rising" and "White God") which are two songs worth having. This new guy (Rob?) is amazing. No, he's nothing like Messiah Marcolin, but definitely has his own epic style. (Messiah Marcolin was just a freak of nature, and no one can top him.)Lucifer Rising is a thrash-fest worthy of someone heavier/faster than Candlemass, and it's killer, to say the least. White God sounds more death metal/gloom like Candlemass of old, and it is epic-ly doom metal at its best. These guys stick to the old formula in a surprising way.The other songs on the CD are live version re-releases. And boy do they really stand out here. Truly outstanding versions with the new guy (Rob?) at the helm and definitely different enough to warrant separate places in my heart as "really good Candlemas".Now, the negative points. I said (Rob?) because there's nothing inside about the band members. This is one of those "barest-of-the-bare" CD releases. The CD insert has nothing really of interest in it. No lyrics, no liner notes, no artwork whatsoever. Nothing. Just a listing of where it's made, release date, etc. But no band lineup, no teasers for stuff to come, no 'thanks for the memories', no NOTHING. Very sad for having spent $10 on it. Would have been nice to have something substantial, you know, to show for it. -1 STAR OFF FOR THAT!Definitely worth owning though. GET IT! or suffer the pain of loss...

I'd recommend buying this album only if you are a Candlemass fanatic and absolutely need to get everything they ever released.The only original tracks just suck (Lucifer Rising, White God).The live of well-know track are recorder with a very crappy audio quality. Better stick with the original in-studio release of these songs.This albums was a downer and a vaste of money.

Firstly this must be one of the longest EP's ever at over an hour.So just what do you get for your money, well you get a couple of good, but not great new tunes, a re-recorded 'live in the studio' classic and pretty much an entire live show. So all in all pretty good value, but what you don't get is anything essential. So if you are an existing Candlemass fan you'll have judge whether it is worth it for a couple of new songs, but if you are new to Candlemass this is as good a place to start as any.

So viel Spaß für wenig Geld !!! Zwar enthält die aktuelle EP der dänischen Doom-Urväter CANDLEMASS nur 3 neue Studio-Tracks, wurde aber zusätzlich noch um insgesamt 9 Live-Songs aufgestockt. "Lucifer rising" hat dadurch eine richtig amtliche Spielzeit von fast 72 Minuten (!), und bietet dem Käufer - wenn man berücksichtigt, dass die Scheibe allerorten für knapp 10 Euro zu haben ist - im wahrsten Sinne "value for money".Mit dem Titelsong "Lucifer rising" legen CANDLEMASS gleich zu Beginn los wie die Feuerwehr, und hauen dem Hörer einen schnörkellosen, rasanten Hassbatzen um die Ohren, bei dem lediglich der ziemlich eintönige Refrain etwas zu wünschen übrig lässt. Ansonsten ist "Lucifer rising" sicherlich einer der härtesten Tracks des Doom-Fünfers, und versprüht einen herrlich unverbrauchten Charme, der sofort Lust auf mehr macht. Der Track hätte durchaus auch auf "Dehumanizer" von BLACK SABBATH stehen können. Einstieg geglückt !!! Der direkte Anschluss könnte mit der düsteren Gänsehaut-Nummer "White god" gar nicht besser gewählt sein. Eine tieftraurige Doom-Hymne in bester CANDLEMASS-Tradition, die ebenso gut auf dem Band-Klassiker "Nightfall" hätte stehen können, und von der ersten bis zur letzten Sekunde für beklemmende Begräbnisstimmung sorgt. Gleiches gilt für die neu eingespielte Version von "Demons gate", die alle Fans ja bereits vom CANDLEMASS-Debüt "Epicus doomicus metallicus" kennen. Hier kann der neue Shouter Robert Lowe (u.a. SOLITUDE AETERNUS) erneut eindrucksvoll beweisen, dass er es auch mühelos mit den "ollen Kamellen" aufnehmen kann. Und überhaupt...es kann durchaus sein, dass der ehemalige Sänger Messiah Marcolin - vor allem auf der Bühne! - eine ganz besondere Ausstrahlung hatte, die von vielen Fans seit dessen Rauswurf bei CANDLEMASS schmerzlich vermisst wird. In Punkto Stimmvolumen und Ausruckskraft kommt an Rob Lowe jedoch so schnell keiner vorbei, weswegen er momentan einfach der absolut perfekte Mann für die Doom-Könige ist. Ende aus...Bestätigt wird dies durch die 9 Live-Songs, die im Jahr 2007 in Athen mitgeschnitten wurden, und auf denen der Mikro-Neuling ebenfalls durch eine tadellose Gesangsleistung glänzen kann. Die Setlist umfasst hierbei sowohl Tracks neueren Datums ("Black dwarf" , "Emperor of the void" , "Of stars and smoke" oder "Devil seed") als auch unverzichtbare Classics ("At the gallows end" , "Samarithan" , "Under the oak" oder den Über-Songs "Solitude"). Die Soundqualität ist zwar nicht unbedingt optimal - teilweise klingen die Gitarren doch ziemlich verwaschen - kommt aber daher umso authentischer rüber. Auch das griechische Publikum präsentiert sich als äußerst textsicher , und kann beinahe jede Textzeile Wort für Wort inbrünstig mitsingen. Atmosphärisch top !!!Fazit: Wie man es von CANDLEMASS gewohnt ist, bietet auch "Lucifer rising" allerbeste Doom-Unterhaltung auf höchstem Niveau. Als Appetizer zum nächsten Longplayer ist dieser 12-Track-Silberling jedenfalls bestens geeignet. Jawoll, mit dieser Band muss auch in den nächsten Jahren gerechnet werden. 5 Punkte !!!

北欧のドゥームエンペラー、CANDLEMASSのミニアルバム。ロバート・ロウ加入後、第2作目となるDEATH MAGIC DOOMの前に発売され、結果的にはアルバム未収録となる曲が入っています。タイトル曲が秀逸な仕上がりのアップテンポ曲なのもグレイトですが、もっとグレイトなのが、オマケのアテネでのライブ。曲数のボリュームもさることながら、選曲も素晴らしい。新旧織り混ぜ、たっぷり満足させてくれます。とにかく素晴らしいミニアルバムです!個人的には、いつかラウドパークなどで来て欲しいバンドですね!

Jetzt geht es aber los. Irgendwie habe ich den Eindruck, daß sich die "wiederauferstandenen" Candlemass jetzt mit Macht an die Spitze der "Doom Metal Welt" katapultieren möchten. Und mit dieser Veröffentlichung kommen sie diesem Ziel einen gewaltigen Schritt näher. Mit Robert Lowe an den Vocals haben sie echt den besten Mann für diesen Posten verpflichtet. Was mit der  King of the Grey Islands  begann, findet jetzt seine Fortsetzung mit der vorliegenden "EP". Zwei neue starke Stücke, eine geniale Neueinspielung von "Demons Gate", und somit wäre das "Soll" für eine EP eigentlich erfüllt. Aber jetzt kommts, als "Zugabe" hat man noch eine Konzertaufnahme mit 9 !! Stücken einer 2007er Show aus Athen mit draufgepackt. Und die hat es in sich. Lowe singt wie ein "junger Gott" und die Publikumsreaktionen sind echt der Hammer.Das ganze wird zum Preis einer EP vertickt. So wünscht sich der Fan das. Danke an Nuclear Blast. Dieses Beispiel sollte Schule machen.Bleibt zu hoffen, daß Candlemass jetzt endlich auch den Zugang zur "normalen" Metal Hörerschaft finden. King of the Grey Islands
