Edward's Crochet Doll Emporium: Flip the Mix-and-Match Patterns to Make and Dress Your Favourite People (Volume 2) (Edward’s Menagerie)

Another wonderful Crochet book – this time for many dolls with wide range of patterns
I own several of Kerry Lord's crochet books and have been enjoying her last one which is based on monsters. This time, she brings a pick and choose style book based on dolls. There are flip pages which show heads and bodies and you choose which one goes with which.Note that, once again, the instructions are provided in UK terms. Essentially, for the purposes of this book, UK dc (double crochet) is equal to US sc (single crochet.) To get full equivalents for UK/US terms, you can easily find them on the internet. The photo instructions in the book are done extremely well. Between “seeing” how to do something with the photo and reading the instructions, it is easy to follow along. Another great thing about this book is that it is spiral bound so turning both full pages and partial pages is done with the touch of a finger. As you are choosing what goes with what, it makes it much easier to put a project together than would have been if a traditional binding had been used. The first part of the book is made up of two segments – head and body. You flip to the pages you want based on the photo and on the back of the page are the instructions. There are three suggested sizes of yarn for the dolls DK, Aran (worsted) and Bulky. I think you can use any size yarn but need to be consistent throughout the project to keep the component sizes in synch. The book also goes into some detail about skin tones, hair and various wardrobe accessories that you can make using the patterns in the book. I appreciate that both female and male doll components were included as I crochet for both my grandson and granddaughter. They have enjoyed the monsters I have been making from Ms. Lord's last book and will now have some dolls to play with as well. I simply can't imagine where Ms. Lord's imagination will take us next, but I will certainly be looking for any new crochet books she releases.

Love th senlatterns!
I love these projects though I haven’t had time to make them yet.I will update if they aren’t as well written as they look. The lack of stinginess in the online samples made me comfortable buying almost every noon butt his author without even having tried a single pattern. Some books won’t let you see any pattern or any full pattern. This one does. This let me know the required skill level which was great!

Great addition to your library
This is a wonderful flip book that you can mix and match to make a one of a kind doll. The book lets the user know what materials are needed and the instructions are clear.

Another gem from Kerry Lord
I adore Kerry Lord's books. Her flip-a-page style patterns make it easy and fun to design a project that is uniquely your own, particularly for children to design a crocheted friend you can bring into being as a very special gift.If you're American and not familiar with UK crochet terms it might be a little bit tricky but as long as you're aware of the difference I believe most people can adapt easily. Also utilize the Toft video tutorials! They can be found on YouTube and will make even the most complicated pattern bits understandable.

Pros are far outweighed by the Cons
Pros and ConsPros:1. Good for less-experienced crocheters, with simple shapes2. Cute ideasCons:1. Not in US crochet terms, so be prepared to translate terms like "double crochet" (our single crochet in the US), etc.2. Overly simplistic hands and feet, which I ended up redoing3. The belly. The body is shaped like an inverted light bulb, which makes dressing the doll a big challenge (they are made for sitting, so a low center of gravity).4. Accessories were crude, being made of worsted weight yarn.5. The hair is very basic, so I ended up buying a second book (AmiguruMe)

Lots of options to use your creativity!
I just received this book today and I just love it! I cannot wait to get started with it! When I knit or crochet something I rarely follow the directions in their entirety. I like to have the option to change it, make it my own, and this book gives you those options! I am glad that I read another review that she uses UK terms. I don’t think that this is an issue for those that have been crocheting for a bit.

Amazing!
I bought this book as a gift for my sister who crochets. She loves it! She has already made three dolls (me and my grandparents) and is planning on making our whole immediate family. It takes her about 3 days to make a doll (don’t know how many hours per day) and she has even taught my 11 year old daughter how to make a doll. Excellent!

So many possibilities, great book
I had a hiccup with shipping which was Amazon's fault but seller was communicative and was great! The book itself is great with so many possibilities of pattern combos give the layout of a flipbook-and-match setup. Love it and can't wait to see how my project turns out!

A wonderful book
Absolutely wonderful easy to use book with brilliant ideas that are easy to follow. Ample ways to adapt designs to represent your own ideas. The only annoying thing - continual mention of author’s own brand of wool which is not an essential product to make successful dolls.
