Really good Yaupon roast
I was really pleased to finally find Yaupon in bulk. Normally you can only find it in bags, an option that makes daily consumption too expensive. The flavor is bold, kind of like smoky chocolate, with no bitterness at all. I like the fact that the profits go to a good cause, reintroducing the plant to it's native habitat, and a pound lasts me over a month. It's a little on the pricey side, but i figure if i really want to I could just grow my own and am glad I can buy bulk so I can get used to it as my daily grind. I think it is much better and more fresh than mate, and would highly recommend this native caffeinated beverage.

Fantastic Alternative to Tea
As a tea drinker who consumes all sorts of teas and herbal concoctions, I am amazed that Yaupon tea is not more widely drunken. It comes from the leaves of a specific holly tree, the misleadingly named Ilex vomitoria, commonly called yaupon or yaupon holly. It has a long history of being consumed by Native Americans, often in rituals where it was combined with other ingredients that stimulated vomiting. Yaupon is from the relative rare class of plants that have sufficient caffeine in their leavers to have an effect. However, more importantly the tea is quite tasty. The type I bought, the Cassina Roast, has a mellow flavor profile, almost like a muted oolong. It needs no sweetener or milk, although you could add to your taste. I use a fine filtered tea strainer which prevents any of the small leaf pieces from getting into your cup or mug.

Not as good as Yerba matte
Despite my preference for Yerba Mate, this tea packet didn't quite hit the mark for me. The flavor was disappointingly mild, lacking the robustness I usually enjoy in my beverages. While some may appreciate its subtle taste, I found it to be lacking in depth and character. The packaging was convenient, but unfortunately, the flavor didn't live up to my expectations. Overall, while it might suit those who prefer milder teas, it didn't quite satisfy my palate. I will stick to Yerba matte.

It's a great coffee substitute.
I like the flavor. I brew it in my kurig, and it works nicely. Good strong notes, with a rather piquant after taste. It costs more than coffee. But it does get the old log launching in the morning.

kind of cool that american native plant can get me the caffine ...
kind of cool that american native plant can get me the caffine I crave. Only issue is that it is a bit of a hassle to brew, using french press. There's also a lot of dust, hard to filter out. It does make awesome sweet tea and creates conversation. I would buy the tea bags next time for more convenience.

Not my favorite taste
I give it 5 stars for the seller making it the best it could be, for what it is. I encourage you to try it. However, it's holly - I still prefer chocolate, coffee, and tea. Maybe it's an acquired taste. Definitely better with honey & milk/cream. But I don't live in those regions. And later I found holly growing at the back of my property. Thank you for doing all the work and roasting it - now I realize I can make it myself :)

pricey but worth it
I love the taste, and the health benefits, and it's a bonus that it is a native shrub.

Very nice
Very nice yaupon. Could afford a bit fewer seeds and stems but great for the price. I also roasted it myself bc it was not brown enough for my liking. The roast is VERY light - the leaves are still green. Oh. On yaupon in general. I like yaupon a lot, not so much Yerba mate, which I find thin and overly grassy. I love black tea and drink it every day. Yaupon is complex- smoky, floral, woodsy… in addition the low tannin level means your teeth stay white (tannins like in coffee and tea stain your teeth).pro tip- If you get a darker roast, try it with a splash of milk!!!
