This beautiful, handcrafted pendant features a rare and authentic piece of forest-green moldavite, lovingly wrapped in rich coils and weaves of Sterling silver wire with faceted, gem-quality peridot beads. This moldavite stone was not cut, so as to retain all it's natural features and properties. You can still see the rough, winkled texture, matte glass surface and small particles (meteorite?) suspended inside. The wire was oxidized naturally with egg yolk, then polished and coated in a layer of clear lacquer to preserve the aged finish of the piece and resist tarnish. The entire pendant measures 41x31x32mm (1.6" x 1.2" x 1.3") and comes suspended on your choice of chain or cord. Since each piece of moldavite is unique, with distinct shape/color/texture, this pendant is one-of-a-kind so there won't ever be another like it. Moldavite was named for the town of Moldauthein, in the Czech Republic, where it was first discovered. The origins of moldavite remains hotly debated by the scientific community. However, the most predominant theory proposes a meteoritic origins (making this a tektite, or meteorite impactite) and this is based on evidence such as it's extremely low water content, unique pitting and wrinkling if the surface, which is characteristic of meteorites, and isotope analysis, comparing it to other known tektites around the world. So, moldavite is essentially splatters of molten terrestrial rock, blown from the surface of the Earth by a comet or meteor impact that cooled as it fell back down, falling mostly in Bohemia. Your pendant will arrive in a lovely gift box and ship securely in a padded envelope with international tracking and insurance direct from my studio to your chosen destination. *Coins are shown for scale and will not be included with this item.
