Following along is easy to see success. Really well written, and great visual aid to easy the process. Worth the price.

The book's title doesn't do the book justice. I have read most of the book (I have not got to the projects yet) and I am delighted with it. It contains numerous beautiful examples and most of the writing is extremely clear. The pictures and their captions read remarkably-well on their own (too). I think that the book is a bargain for anyone interested in learning chip carving technique.Update: It turns out I didn't get very excited about any of the 7 projects at the end of the book. But I don't mind. I got some great "lessons" from the book.

Book is perfect for those wanting to get into wood carving. Lots of examples and pictures. Look forward to using this as a reference.

This is the textbook I used to teach myself chip carving. There are plenty of good color pictures that shows basic techniques, help you visualize your hand positions, and how to diagnose your mistakes. If you follow the exercises step by step, you can learn the basics pretty quickly with good foundation. There are a few projects and patterns you can follow which are fun to do for practical objects. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is new to this art.

I find this book very helpful it starting out in wood carving, You'll learn how to care for your tools, how to select the wood to use, how to put a pattern on the wood, It also can be used for reference later on. It's a great book to read before you jump into something you may know nothing about. Remember to use proper safety practices when using any type of tools.

This book was PERFECT! Great for beginners, and so much fun!

Pour moi c'est le meilleur bouquin sur le sujet : on retrouve tout le contenu des bouquins de Chris Pye (la référence du domaine) ainsi que toutes les astuces pratiques essentielles. Après un peu de pratique, on se pose pas mal de questions sur comment faire différents types de coupes et toutes les réponses pratiques se trouvent dans ce bouquin.

I love it but its to expert for me. I keep cutting myself aswell! Its a shame because I really wanted to do this, but I cant seem to cut the wood like you are supposed to. But I am weaker with M.E. so you will probably be able to.
