Great toy for very little money
This is such a simple idea but so much fun can be had. i bought it for my 2 year old son, and I think that it is a great toy for children from about 1 to 4 years old (I think by 5 they will have got all they can out of it). My son isn't so interested in sorting and stacking, although he does do it a little. When I gave it to him a few days ago he couldn't thread yet - but he has learnt how to in no time, and has also learnt 'through the middle'and 'pull it through'- which are completely new concepts to him. So within a few days he has made a dramatic step forward in terms of manual dexterity, and learnt some new words/concepts. Great. He doesn't want to play with it all the time - but it is something that I can resort to on a rainy day. I bought it because of the rave reviews and the price, and i am very happy - good simple fun. I wish more toys were like this. It would be good if there was another thread supplied, but one is ok.

Sturdy, colourful set.
Great set of four colours for threading in patterns. Bought to support fine motor control development. Great fun when threading or stacking or sorting the reels. Would like some pattern cards to aid copying from simple to more complex. Great resource to building early literacy and numeracy concepts.

COLOURFUL FUN
Bought these for my one year old grandson because at the moment he loves threading things on to wool etc. The rope that comes with these reels is very sturdy and perfect for his little fingers to hold while threading. These reels are recommended for 3+ but as long as you are there to supervise, a younger child would be fine with them. They are brilliant for stacking too and are helping me to teach him how to say his colours. Oh and by the way - they make a good loud noise when he bashes one on the wooden side table, much to his delight. My daughter's nursery use these cotton reels so they come highly recommended.

Good basic toy - wish I'd got it when she was 2
This amused my 3 year old daughter for 10 minutes when it first came out the box, but she has shown no interest since when I suggest it. I think she would have got more out of this a year ago - now she is happy with her colours, and can build towers of bricks etc fairly easily, so that only leaves the threading, which only kept her busy for a little while. She's old enough now to understand that beads or something pretty would make a better necklace, but would lack the co-ordination to thread that sort of thing. The plastic cotton reels are very durable and could be played with by a very young child, although you'd obviously need to take the cord away. Lots of interesting holes to shove your fingers in :-) Very good value, but of limited interest to a 3 year old (well mine, anyway!)

Engaging ... well made and helps motor skill development .... what else for a fiver !
I bought this at around 15 month stage for my daughter initially it was the bright coloured reels she played with ... then started two try and put the lacing string through different holes and around 2 year stage she had perfected it ... we have since gone ahead and invested on other lacing material. excellent because keeps them busy, guessing and exploring ... its fun to watch a little one try put the lace again and again and follow the same steps repeatedly... good carry case though quite big compared to the toy. well made and the paint hasn't come off or didn't find any sharp edges.
