Spear & Jackson 3715AB Razorsharp 1.5lb Hatchet

Razor sharp is a bit of an overstatement, but this is good at its job. nice and heavy and cuts up pallets easily for kindling. The handle is a good size and easy to hold which balances out the blade. Comes with a plastic blade protector, overall excellent value for money.

Got this hatchet to get at some awkward branches. I couldn't get to with my my saw. Seems pretty well made, comes semi sharp and holds it's edge pretty well. Can be made sharper if you know what you are doing. Drop forged. American hickory handle.. Did what I needed. I put this short review up, because there are more than one version of this axe/hatchet. This is for the 1.5 lb version. Someone has already put the measurements up for the 2.5lb version. Measurements are in the video. Just pause to have a closer look if you need to.. But your well made and you're good enough and cheaper than the rest. So I went out to the problem that had troubled me for days. I introduced it to my friend...Now trouble's gone away. Well now you heard my story I'll take no more of your time. If your thinking of buying a tool like this I hope I helped you make up your mind. It's good enough I think you'll see. If you're gonna use it occasionally.. Aha ... Ooh Hoo Aaa Ha Mmmmm...

The product seems sturdy and well made for the price. Upon receiving it though mine is blunt as anything, I'm hoping to sharpen it rather than returning it.

As many commentators have said, this axe isn't particularly sharp as received, and so it's somewhat mis-described in the product details, but so what; can any axe keep a knife-edge given the way in which axes are used. Surely even a sharp knife would dull immediately upon being pounded into a piece of wood rather than sliced across it. At any rate, this axe is made from mild steel and so would take an edge from a grind-stone if necessary. Overall this is a well-made product from a well-regarded company and so I recommend it.

I read some reviews saying this wasn't very sharp upon arrival. I found it OK, certainly not razor sharp but it will sharpen if needed. The added instructions state to soak the handle first to allow it to swell slighlty but I found the head very firmly attached and ready to work. Great axe for not a lot of coin.

I received this little gem and put it to work right away. I will say that I have a little handheld sharpener that I picked up on Amazon and stroked it a few times with that Creative Sales Company 41000 Lawn Mower & Garden Tool Sharpener I didn't notice much, a little clear plastic substance came off the axe. I suppose I could get a little more aggressive in sharpening the unit because what company is going to send you a axe that you could cut your finger on in this age of sue-happy consumers? Anyway, I bought this specifically because I am getting rid of a very large yucca plant that was planted by someone long ago in my front yard. It was encroaching on the sidewalk poking anyone that ventured down same with its razor sharp fronds. I cut it down as much as possible with my electric chainsaw bought (where else) here and needed something to get more material out. To kill it the best product I found was to use this Compare-N-Save Concentrate Grass and Weed Killer, 41-Percent Glyphosate, 1-Gallon full strength on the shoots that appeared. It's tough to kill a yucca, the superintendent of the grounds where I live laughed after I told him I was getting rid of it with "It will be BACK!". So the axe is a delight. Very well secured to the hardwood handle and appears to be a very high quality metal. It did a great job of slicing through all the various shoots that are still there ranging from 6" in diameter to less than an inch. I used it one and two handed and it was both big enough and small enough to use comfortably. I highly recommend this product.

Es un hacha barata, yo pagué menos de 13€ y la he visto a 11, por lo que no tenia expectativas demasido altas. La calidad no esta muy lejos de otras hachas de producción industrial, de precio ligeramente superior. Por supuesto no está afilada, eso lo esperaba, pero es que ademas el filo está completamente descentrado y requerirá bastante lima para su corrección. El problema con estas hachas de marcas europeas, pero en realidad de factura asiatica, es que tienen un control de calidad muy pobre, y asi te puede tocar una unidad decente o una con taras inceptables. Pasa lo mismo con las Bahco, unas salen bien y otras no. El mango es de nogal americano que es, a mi parecer, mejor que la madera de haya que se usa generalmente en las hachas europeas. Actualización ------------------------------ Yo he rehecho el filo (y otras modificaciones) sin problemas, pero no creo que sea algo que esté al alcance, ni en las expectativas, del comprador medio que la quiera para podar el jardín o cortar maderitas para la estufa.

Amazing axe hope the head weight makes it clean into 5 inches slugs very good spliting the handle also feels pretty good and so far havent had any kind of chip on edge at all
