Great baby gates. Do the hinge side first!
With the help of my parents we installed two of these baby gates. We didn't use the instruction manual because the company recommends using the App Onbox and they give you the code 5731 so you are able to follow video instructions. Onbox allows you to see each step in video form which you can watch as many times as you need to, it also allows you to look back and forward to any of the steps that you need. A massive help was from a review I read by Caj3 who said to first do the hinge side, mark it up and screw in the plastic hinge pieces first, then make up the gate to the correct width and then line up the opening plastic pieces using the gate whilst hanging on the wall. This was the best piece of advice! If I had done it the way the instructions say I'm not sure the gate would have lined up. It's an easier and definitely a more fool proof method of installing the baby gates. It took roughly 3 hours, but as I said we installed two gates and two of of the four of us are disabled, although we all chipped in at some stage 😁. The big question is will they stay put when my 18 month old Granddaughter comes to stay?! At this time they seem very strong and I opened and closed them loads of times to make sure I can do it one handed and they open and close very easily. They move on the hinges beautifully with no noise, even the gate that stretches across a 102cm gap swings on the hinges silently and opens and closes brilliantly. I also love that you can remove them when they are not needed. ATM I'm very impressed with these baby gates. I'm incredibly grateful to Caj3's review that suggested doing the hinge side first, fab advice!!

great item, price and quality
Second Babydan stairgate I've bought as I was so impressed with the first. This is the "multidan" extending version...I had the fixed width one before. Fitted a 2" batten on the wall each side.......... it looks nicer I reckon and the batten also makes it a lot easier to fit the screws as I was only going into wood. When you open the fittings pack, be careful with the "piece" that locks/unlocks the gate....... if you press it when it's not mounted, it comes apart and you can easily lose the small plastic "plate" and spring..... in fact in my box, it had already come apart and I was wondering where this spring and plate had come from. Its a bit fiddly to fit so don't rush it............... I'm pretty good with DIY and with fixing/painting the batten, a good couple of hours. works beautifully... feels pretty sturdy.......... easy to open for adults but difficult for toddlers. Template works well for the hinge side............ make sure they're positioned correctly and there won't be any problems that some people seem to have experienced with it lifting off the hinges. I didn't bother with the template for the other side........... just swing the gate across, with the 2 sections bolted together in the final positions, to the "closed" position.............. then position the top/bottom supports so they sit correctly in the gate supports, mark their exact position and screw them in place. I have read of people just using the template and the gate has been slightly twisted so they then had to reposition and redrill all the holes.

Passed puppy dog test!
Nice and sturdy. My puppy dog chewed the previous one, so I needed a metal one. I had to repear the holes in the wall a couple of times as my floor is not even, and had to make holes in the skirting to have it low enough that the dog doesn’t go underneath it, but overall I am happy.

Cheap but effective and versatile
I have used this outside to prevent our child from leaving the wooden decking. As screwing into the woodwork on the balcony is not difficult installation was quick and easy. What I did find was that the bolts for the screws to join the two parts of the gate together were slightly too big to fit the existing holes which I then had to drillout. It's not really designed for outside use, so rust is appearing on it already, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer. I will touch it up and cover the rust if it becomes too unsightly. I originally bought this to take to Spain and therefore cut the gate panels down slightly prior to travelling to allow them to fit in the luggage. In the end we didn't use them so they came home again. The only point to make about that is that after I cut the gates down (which was easy with a hacksaw) the push in plastic parts for the bar ends were quite tricky to install, but they did go in eventually. Really not a criticism as almost all users will have no need to cut the gates. If your home layout means you need several of these gates this one offers excellent value and flexibility. Many gates are 30 pounds plus which soon mounts up. 13 pounds delivered is great value.

Sturdy, secure, easy to use!
As a first time dad desperately trying to avoid "precious first born" syndrome but acutely aware of the dangers of not baby proofing one's house, I thoroughly recommend this product. It is sturdy, very easy to adjust its length and so easy to put up. My only bugbear was I had to chisel into a piece of my skirting board to get it to fit onto the relevant wall but that's more to do with the layout of my house than the gate itself. You can easily remove the gate from the fittings if needs be for easy passage by just removing a top clip but once the gate is in place in its fixings it's not going anywhere unless you want it to. A simple and solid design. There is a catch on the opposite side fixings so the gate only swings one way. This can be taken out and swapped round or removed completely according to your needs. All in all a great little gate. To be fair, the proof of the pudding will be when my daughter tries to rip it off the wall to get down the stairs. I really can't see that happening so I think for the money this is a smart choice of safety gate.

A nice product but has some faults
We installed our extendable wooden stair gate at the bottom of our stair case. However the bottom hook constantly lifts up and out of its fitting when opening quickly which is extremely annoying, making marks along the wall. To open the gate when locked in place, you need to push a clip down and lift the gate to release when opening, if you lift too high, the bottom hook fixed to the wall will pop out. To lock the gate, you need to lift the gate and slide it in to place until you hear a click. It's not a quick simple job, you need a drill and use the templates provided for where the fixtures and fittings need to be placed. We found that when the gate is fully open, we needed to hold it in place otherwise the gate keeps closing. You then have to stop it from banging directly on to a wall or other surface as it leaves a mark due to where the screw is placed on the gate. We've put some soft padded tape on top of a screw fixing to stop this. Ours opens against the wall when fully open and have had to install a small hook and a tie option to keep it open when not needed otherwise it keeps closing. Size is good, no noise, quality is good, feels very sturdy and is value for money. However, it would have been much better if the screws were embedded more in to the wood where you need to extend and should not be flush with the wood of the gate as this is what marks the wall.
