Is this the l'originaleight hour cream

I think it is. It certainly has the same effects as the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream I used 20+ years ago.

does this cream protect from sun too or do I have to use the sun block underneath?

As far as I am aware, there is no SPF (sun protection factor) in the eight hour cream. you would have to use a seperate sun protection product. It is great for treating sunburn/windburn though. If you want an EA 8 hour product with SPF, try the ELIZABETH ARDEN EIGHT HOUR CREAM INTENSIVE DAILY MOISTURIZER FOR FACE SPF 15 (50ML) or EA does sun cream for the face which offers very high SPF protection (50).
