Product Description Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush star in this Disney swashbuckler directed by Gore Verbinski. When Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), the daughter of Governor Swann (Jonathan Pryce), is kidnapped by Captain Barbossa (Rush) and his band of pirates, lovelorn Will Turner (Bloom) goes to her rescue. Needing help to get on board the pirates' ship, Will enlists eccentric captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) and quickly sets off in pursuit. However, with the crew of the Black Pearl cursed to spend their time between the living and the dead and only the blood of Elizabeth able to lift the spell, the pair face a race against time to overcome the undead crew and rescue her before it's too late. .co.uk Review The movie that helped breathe new life into the summer blockbuster, the success of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl is remarkable for several reasons. Firstly, theres the unlikely source material. Theres no previous history of theme park rides inspiring major hit movies, yet thats just whats happened here. Secondly, theres the patchy performance of pirate-related movies over the years (does anyone remember seeing Cutthroat Island in a cinema?). And then theres that performance from Johnny Depp, the one that had Disney executives in a flap prior to the release of the movie. His Captain Jack Sparrow is a fantastic, unlikely creation, proving to be both unpredictable yet utterly compelling. Such is his impact on the film that its hardly surprising Depp snared an Oscar nomination for the role. Yet Depps performance shouldnt blind anyone to the films many other qualities. The supporting cast, particularly the likes of Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport and Jonathan Pryce are all clearly having a whale of a time, while Gore Verbinskis pacey yet controlled direction rarely lets the momentum slow. And with all their work grounded by a quality script and worthwhile story, the end result is a film that clicks in many, many different ways. Of course, its now proved the inspiration for a pair of sequels, yet no matter how they turn out, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl will always stand as a quite brilliant example of what happens on those rare occasions when Hollywood blockbusters get it absolutely right. And its a treat that can easily be enjoyed time after time. --Simon Brew

Welcome captain Jack Sparrow
The first film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series which introduces us to a great cast of colourful characters and the amazing visuals that have allowed these films to keep on coming and still be enjoyed by movie goers. This is not the strongest offering in the series in my opinion but does a great job of introducing you to the main protagonists and getting you to understand the times and way of life being dealt with in the film. Well worth checking out but for me there are better films in the series.

Bought this as I'd still not watched it but also to support Johnny Depp!
Loved the build ups to the main characters. The action was great. Lots of trickery, which I like. Was hoping for a few more black Caribbean characters and pirates and maybe more stuff about the island culture and music and food. The main thing was the fantastic captain sparrow! I am now going to watch all the others for the first time too. Thanks for getting these great films out into the world to spread fun and happiness and joy. Bless. It was worth every penny.

Excellent fun film
The best of the Pirates series. Excellent fun, could not be better. If only the writers of the entire series had managed to be as consistently good as Johnny Depp is with his character. Worth watching any of the films for Depps Captain Jack Sparrow interpretation, but the 1st and 2nd films are the best. Depp himself could not be better, his acting is excellent in all of them.

Captain Pugwash eat yer heart out.
I recently purchased an LCD TV and in order to take advantage of its HD capability I splashed out on a Blue-ray player as well as a Sound bar. While I accepted that I would be getting a superior picture I wasn't exactly blown away by the BR disks I bought .That is until yesterday.Having ordered this disk over the weekend, I loaded it into the tray and pressed play.Talk about revelation. The clarity of the picture is out of this world. Add the sound quality. (Note to self, must purchase woofer) and I was very impressed. However special effects do not make a film. To that end this film is amazing. Fast paced, very funny, brilliant acting and what do you have.A decent film. Now if only Hollywood could repeat this formula on a more regular basis.System.TV Panasonic TX-32LZD80BR player Sony BDPS350Sound bar Yamaha HTY750
