Fab, sort of smallish, DAB radio
I need a radio with smooth buttons for a very odd reason.I don't sleep that well and I will use this for DAB & FM talk stations to listen to while I (hopefully) drift off again. The function buttons are smooth to the touch and easy to operate. In fact the whole setup is super easy. With the radio being smooth all over (no sharp edges at all) this is going to be perfect. No loud clicking from channel flipping and the sound from both the speaker and earbuds (which I use during the night in bed) is really good.Finding the toggle switch a little fiddly but I'll get used to that (as said, I use this in bed and work the buttons in the dark) so it's all good.If you have the same problem as me, apart from the slightly larger size, this will work very well for me and it could be right for you.I've seen comments about noisy buttons annoying partners, so I know I'm not the only one suffering this sleep condition.I bought a rechargeable mini radio (no speaker) but after 18months it refused to charge..... Caput! This having 4 AA batteries I can use rechargeables to keep it going.I bought the blue version coz it was a few quid cheaper but whose going to see it under my duvet so I'm happy, no in fact I'm highly delighted with my purchase. This is a super smart, clear sounding digital radio, although a little large and maybe a bit heavy owing to the rechargeable batteries, I know I will not regret buying. This would be great for holidays or just around the house. White looks really cool although I don't need fancy colours. For me, this will do the job i need it to do.

Great radio
I bought this mainly for use in the bathroom to replace a rechargeable radio I was sick of charging every few days. Combined with some new rechargeable batteries I’ve been very pleased with this, it’s lasting me 5 weeks on one set of batteries.Everything about it is quality. The sound is very clear but don’t expect anything amazing from its size though, there’s next to no bass but that’s not the point of this sort of radio. Although the volume is pretty good if you turn it up all the way.I also really like the screen, you can change the setting in the menu for the backlight to stay on whenever the radio is on.

A very nice radio but not quite as good as the smaller Sony Pocket DAB Radio
it's hard to overstate how nice and simple this radio is to set up and use. When you first switch on it does a full auto tune for DAB. It takes seconds. In less than one minute (literally) I had it tuned and all five presets assigned. It could not be easier. If only all DAB radios were like this.DAB reception is great where I live so I don't even need to have the aerial up and I get all the stations. I won't be using FM but I tried it and it was a different story, not even finding major BBC stations with the aerial fully extended. There was quite a lot of interference on FM stations too. DAB+ channels seem to take a second or two longer to tune in, but there aren't many of those yet. They don't sound any different. On DAB the sound is pleasant (very clear, not distorted, quite crisp) for spoken word and light music. I mostly listen to spoken word. There's no bass or warmth to the sound though, and no tone controls to adjust it. The sound is no louder or better (very little different in fact) than the sound from the much smaller Sony DAB pocket radio. I have two of those and absolutely love them. I don't love this quite as much. I thought, being at least twice the size, it would have a much bigger sound than its baby brother. It doesn't. But it sounds okay.At least it works exactly the same as the smaller Sony radio, which is a very good thing indeed. The large display is almost identical except that it shows the time more prominently and has a different colour back-light. It adds two extra direct-access presets, and has a mains adapter instead of a USB adapter. The finish is a little less high-end though (the grey-blue (more grey in the flesh than I expected) plastic case has a curious 'elephant skin' texture and it feels a bit cheaper somehow. The speaker grille is metal. It's quite a nice looking radio overall, but the smaller version looks more stylish. Both have a headphone socket. Neither has an input for you to play music from a phone or tablet.I'm using the excellent Amazon Basics high-power rechargeable AA batteries to power this radio, and they lasted an impressive six weeks before needing a recharge. You get a mains 'brick' in the box too, and if you use mains power, you can set the display back-light permanently to on and use what Sony calls a 'wake up timer'. This turns it into a clock radio of sorts. When I bought this it was a little bit cheaper than the smaller Sony radio, surprisingly. As I said, I have two of those, and in retrospect perhaps should have bought a third one instead of this despite the price difference. This one is twice the size but has more or less the same sound quality. It needs AA batteries or mains power, whereas the smaller one uses self-contained USB power (though you can't replace the internal battery). The smaller one is easy to recommend as the best radio I've ever used, while this one is merely very good.

So easy to set up and operate
I bought this radio to take into hospital with me, nice compact size and really nice sound. I used it for several nights and part during the days on battery and it still shows that the batteries are almost full. The display screen is clear and easy to read and nice to have the clock function. Simply a nice little radio.

Great little radio
Love this Little Sony radio. I listen mainly through headphones and the sound is crystal clear and in stereo ,easy to tune and store presets ,it is replacing a Roberts play 10 which was terrible. If you are looking for a compact dab radio you can't go wrong with this 👍

Great little radio!
Great little radio. Sound quality is good as setting/searching for stations is very easy. The only thing that’s missing for us is a little handle to carry it around (we like to use it in the bathroom as well garden), but that’s not a biggie. We have it in the grey/blue colour - it’s very pretty!

Perfect compact alarm clock radio with great sound
I bought this radio after making the initial mistake of trying cheaper alternatives. The first one was faulty and the second type I tried had terrible sound quality and the volume didn't go low enough. This Sony radio is absolutely worth the extra money, the sound is perfect, there's no distortion and the volume goes very low to reasonably loud if needed. It's very easy to tune and set and it extremely compact which was an added bonus. All in all a perfect buy and will stick with Sony from now on. My other Sony radio I use in the kitchen is still going strong 15 years later.
