Great Watch, Great Value
The GuTe and Vigoroso automatic mechanical wrist watches, that I recently purchased, appear to be the same watch in different colour formats, marketed by different companies. They both have the Winner logo and script on the dial just under the 12. I assume, therefore, that Winner is the watchmaker. For these reasons the reviews for these watches are going to be near identical. The GuTe version has an off white dial, blue fingers and blue full sweep second hand. There are black Arabic numerals indicating the hours and around the very edge of the dial are minute / second markers with Arabic numerals at 5 minute / second intervals. The strap is brown leather. This is not a high end watch. It could hardly be expected at a purchase price of merely £26.99. Also, in the instructions, it warns of malfunction that cannot be corrected if the watch is exposed to physical shock. This implies to me that the mechanism is not shockproof. However at a price of £26.99 this watch could be considered disposable. If it only lasted 12 months, the cost averaged over the year would be 51.9 pence per week, far less than a half pint of premium English bitter, and it is guaranteed for 2 years. For all that, this is an attractive watch. It has a classical elegance about it. I am a big fan of mechanical watches, particularly automatic / self winding wrist watches. They are always ready to use and there are no batteries needing renewal / disposal. They are really green. Best of all, the second hand rotates with an almost completely smooth motion. This watch keeps just as good time as my Seiko and Tissot automatics. However the power reserve is not as good as these higher specification watches. This is nothing that can’t be solved by 10 winds of the winder, morning and night. How big a deal is that? I love this watch. It will be used a great deal. The only citicism that I would make is that the date window is very small. It makes it difficult to read for old codgers like me.

Great entry into the miraculous world of mechanical watches!
Astonishing that you can buy a piece of mechanical art for so little money. When i first got the watch,i noticed that it was 13 seconds fast. It still is 3 days later!. I don't know if that's because it's a new watch and the lubricants could be a bit thick due to inactivity of the watch. I'll see over the coming weeks. Apart from the stiff strap, it's VERY good. The crown has a certain satisfying, not overly firm feel about it when your setting the time and date. And unlike a lot of similar priced watches, when you press the crown in to set the time, the minute hand doesn't move slightly. That's a sign of good quality mechanical workmanship. I'll probably update this review in a couple of weeks. If i don't, you'll know the watch is still fine. But yes i wholeheartedly recommend it.

Lovely watch and great company
Great to have a watch that doesn't need batteries. I had a problem with the first one, but the company were absolutely brilliant in making sure that I quickly got a replacement. Very attractive watch and, although its early days yet, the replacement is working well keeping good time.

A mechanical watch... for UNDER £20!!!
I still find it absolutely incredible that you can get a mechanical watch for under £20. Swatch's Sistem51 is mostly plastic, is made entirely by robots in just 20 minutes, and costs upwards of £100. Even Seiko's lowest end, made-in-Malasia, SNXS77 (and its ilk) goes for something in the region of £50 - £100. And the Seiko doesn't even have the option of hand-winding! The Gute Classic WINNER Mechanical watch is something I would recommend only with a certain number of caveats. It is based around the Chinese Standard Movement (with date and auto-winding complications). If you have ever seen a tear-down of one of these movements you will know that they are not made in 'clean room' conditions and they have very little oil. This means they are likely to be dirty and prone to failure. But at this price point you cannot really ask for more. It's a bit luck-of-the-draw as to whether you get one that works well or is a complete dud. Either way, once it fails this watch is cheap enough to simply replace rather than service. The cheaper-to-replace-than-to-service thing certainly is not unique to this watch and you could argue that with this ethos in mind, slightly shoddy workmanship and a quartz-rivalling price tag actually makes better sense than spending £100+ on an unserviceable watch. Still, if you had a Seiko 5 at just £30 more, you could be a good deal more confident that it would go on working reliably for many years to come. The automatic movement in this watch features a rotor that is far too stiff and far too light to actually be effective. It does, however, retain the manual-wind functionality of the base model and so the watch can still be used by simply remembering to hand-wind it each morning. I got quite lucky with my watch and it manages to keep to around -11 seconds per day. This is comparable to my Seiko SRP779 which cost several hundred pounds, and it is considerably better than my Seiko 5. That being said, the finishing on the movement is more than a tad 'industrial' and it looks as though it has been dragged across a concrete slab. It's a complete aesthetic mess inside and they probably would have done better to have given it a solid case back. Besides showing off the horrid-looking movement, the exhibition case back also reveals how small the movement is in relation to the case size. This is not necessarily a problem in-and-of itself, but it serves to further highlight the awkwardness of the watch's proportions. The small movement relative to the case and dial size means that the date is set a bit too far in from the bezel, spoiling the balance of the dial. The hands are also too short for the size of the dial and the date window is disproportionately tiny. The case back is stamped with the words 'stainless steel', but if there is any stainless steel in the watch then I suspect it is only in the case back. Other stainless steel watches that I have of comparable size are far heavier than this watch and it honestly feels more like a nickel alloy to me. So it is not exactly haute horologie and there is bound to be a higher risk of failure (or of getting an outright dud) simply because of what lies inside and how it was made. But knowing what I do about watches I still went ahead and bought one anyway (and I think I got quite lucky, in terms of the movement at least), so why did I buy it and to whom would I recommend it? I bought this watch because I just couldn't believe I would actually be able to get a proper mechanical watch for under £20. I had to see it with my own eyes. I don't for one moment believe that you couldn't get a MUCH better quartz watch for this or even less money, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just looking for a cheap watch. Or to anyone looking for a reliable watch. Or to anyone looking for a well-balanced, nicely finished watch. But perhaps if you go in eyes wide open and without any misconceptions, and if you were looking for an absolute beater of a watch for a stag weekend or some other adventure from which you do not entirely expect your watch to return alive, then you might do worse than to consider the Gute Classic WINNER Mechanical watch.

Excellent value
I bought this watch for general day to day use to save a more expensive watch for those special occasions. This watch is remarkable value. It keeps excellent time loosing only seconds in a 24 hour period matching the accuracy of more expensive watches. I think the face and dark hands are attractive and easy to read. I would buy this again.

I don't wear a watch very often, but when I do, I wear it for one reason, to keep track of time. I don't need any fancy electronics or apps, I just want to look at my watch and see what the time is. Having a self winding watch is a bit of a luxury compared to a watch that can only be wound, but I wanted one where fiddling with a battery every year was not a requirement. Another plus is that when the time comes to switch to or from daylight savings time, I don't have to go through a number of steps to go ahead or back.

Für den Preis geht die Uhr voll in Ordnung. Funktioniert tadellos und macht auch optisch was her.
