Short battery, short lifespan
I was happy with it originally. UI is mildly annoying, but satisfactory. Battery life is much shorter than the last Cowon on Sonys I've had (forgotten models) only 9 hours or so.However, total lifespan has been very short. Recently it started turning itself off randomly, perhaps every 40 mins or so, and sometimes not finding some files on it. Now after only 8 months it doesn't work at all.

Great piece of kit
Bought this to replace my old Zen Micro and I'm very impressed. Great sounds, nice and small, good size memory. Just hope it lasts as well as the Zen did!

Nice try but not good enough.
As an ardent hater of Apple products. I believe people have been brain washed into believing they are getting the best. Think again. My Cowon i9 Plus arrived this morning and was ready to go already charged. Did not read the manual and was up and running. Simply dragged and dropped a couple of albums and went out with the dog for a walk. I tried them out with a pair of Sony in-ear phones and the sound was amazing. Then plugged in my Bose OE2 through FIIO EO6 amplifier and my ears were happy as Larry. Have copied most of my music over. Happy piggy.Part 2 of my review, 18/07/14. I have been using the Cowon i9 for a couple of weeks now and agree that the sound is amazing. I play it through a Fiio Kilimanjaro portable amp into Bose OE2 headphones. there are 2 things that niggle me about the Cowon i9. When you download your songs the Album art does not transfer automatically like other MP3 players and when I want to play all songs of a particular artist in album sequence It wont let me do it. The Cowon puts all the songs from that artists albums in alphabetical order, which I find frustrating. So I am going to have to change my rating rom the initial 5 star down to a 3 star. I think i'll going back to Sony.

Excellent sound quality
I bought this after my Cowon x5l bit the dust earlier this year. I wanted something lightweight that I could run with whilst not sacrificing on music quality. The sound quality is not quite as good as the x5l, but the JetEffect settings provide a large number of options to get the sound pretty good, much better than any phone I've had, and having my music in OGG format sounds noticeably better than any MP3s that I have. The battery life is really good.I like the drag and drop ability which makes it very easy to transfer files across.NigglesThe auto turn off is annoying, as the player doesn't automatically start playing music when you turn it on. And if you don't press any button within a minute then it will turn off.I use the option to have the volume controls as fwd/rev when in lock mode, and it is quite easy to press the pause button at the same time as fwd, as they are on opposite sides of the player. And pausing it can cause auto turn off, if you don't realise within the minute that you get before it does that. The playlists are limited to 400 songs, which is a little annoying as my old favourite playlist was twice that size. I worked round it by using the genre field and setting that to a playlist name - since the genre field is pretty useless anyway. Playlists are reasonably easy to create using the JetAudio software (beware downloading it as it tries to install a load of annoyware on your computer!), by dragging files into the playlist window, and then exporting to m3u format. There is no ability to play a folder (like there was on the x5l) unless you have a song directly in that folder. Eg I might have a 60s folder with lots of folders in that by artist, and then by album, but I cannot play the whole 60s folder. The only way round this that I could see (or found online somewhere) was to create a very small empty wav file and copy it into every folder that I wanted to be able to play the whole of, and which couldn't be selected any other way. This works OK. It also solves the problem mentioned in another comment of playing the albums within that folder in order. But I still really like it, and think Cowon music players sound really good. It might be a bit different to use than other players, but it's worth it.

Easy to activate functions unintentionally when changing the volume
Instructions difficult to follow, or just don't work. Put it on random plat all tracks as can't get playlist to work. Left it connected in the car switched off and the battery ran flat. Easy to activate functions unintentionally when changing the volume. Sound O.K.

How do you sort out a playlist???
As a lover of the Creative mp3 players over the years i upgraded to a Cowon i9 mainly because it was 32GB...The sound is fantastic but a few things do let it down mainly 'The Playlist' function, or lack of it. Wish i looked elsewhere now.

Not great for heavy everyday use.
Bit plasticky and thus easily broken. I had to buy a new screen within 6 months as it was cracked.Only bought it because it didn't have an auto-volume limiter already installed, as per most EU products.Next time I'll go the extra mile and get a Sony NWZ from the USA.

Assolutamente soddisfatto

Consigliato
