Storyboarding Shakespeare... Why Wasn't This Around For Me 30 Years Ago?
I remember studying A Midsummer Night's Dream at secondary school many (many), years ago and I think I would have loved to have had such a book as this around then. It's a great way to introduce this play to a more young and modern audience, in a way that keeps you entertained and also gives the visual understanding of what is going on. The comic book/graphic novel format is accessible, drawn well in a fun style and definitely helps with the flow of the play. It's rather like storyboarding the play for a film/cartoon adaptation.Yes, there's no substitute for the original text, but this when used either as an introduction or in parallel, I think is sure to keep minds focused. At the rear of the book are some further study points and fun facts and overall I think this is great book.

Glorious graphic novel reproduction
Amazing graphic novel version of the Shakespeare classic which makes it so much more accessible to youngsters. I've been reading it with my children (under 10yrs old) and they are enthralled by the story and fantastic imagery depicting the scenes and characters in a colourful and modern style. As stated in the introduction these plays are "not of an age, but for all time."There's some fantastic added sections within the book - lovely historical and geographical summaries, structural and thematic analysis and a timeline all brilliantly written and engaging for younger minds.Fantastic book - thoroughly enjoyable and great at getting children interested in the classics. Superb - can't wait to read more of the series.🎭⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎭

Engaging and enjoyable
Classics in graphics. This is a beautful graphic novel, with stunning graphics and a very, very simplified, beautifully written version of Shakespears Midsummer Night's Dream. I believe the "Classics In Graphics" series is a brilliant idea to make these literary works more accessible and enjoyable for younger audiences. Its a great way to instill a love for the classics at a young age.

Not a replacement for the real thing
‘Classics in graphics’ is an interesting idea when it comes to making old works more accessible. This graphic novel provides a cut-down version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Helpfully, it has a list of characters (with their faces) at the start. Each act of the play has been cut down to between 15 and 20 pages of comic strip with speech bubbles, meaning that the overall story stays intact — but, importantly, it isn’t really Shakespeare, it’s so brief.I can see that it would be good for children and perhaps a good way for some to get into the Bard, but it’s not a replacement for the real thing. Three stars.
