Do these work with a CD player?

They have a standard 3.5mm earphone jack so if normal earphones work then yes these will

replace cable / jack ?

Not unless you are handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron. These have however held up well with nearly daily use in a contact centre for the last few months and going strong.

How good are these for blocking out background noise? Like for studying etc? Nothing too loud just background chatter.

Not too sure as the phones sit on the ears and do not surround the ear, so sound could leak in I suspect. They are rather good and worth a try 'tho.

Yes they fit right over the ears and are very comfortable! Can't help you about plane noise but they block out most background noise and obviously depends how loud you listen to your music.
