FAULTLESS -AND I MISTAKENLY WROTE A CRITICAL REVIEW (AMENDED HERE)
The clock has been literally perfect for my needs: as others have said, the chimes are so close to what you get from a mechanical movement as to be (to my and visitors' ears) indistinguishable from the real thing. The wood and brass-looking finish and the two 'keyholes' add to the authenticity: you would have to look very closely/take the clock off the wall to discover that it is battery-operated.Around March 2021 (about 18 months after purchase), the chime - really only the single hour strikes, rather than the carillon (Westminster, for me) - started to sound distorted - as you would get from, say, excessive volume through a rubbish speaker. Replacing the battery (which - another excellent point - has lasted for 18 months) made no difference and the distortion increased to the point where it was so intrusive, even when the voilume was low, that I had to turn off the chime - which was one of its main qualities. After a bit more reflection, I tried replacing the battery again. The result was a return to normal - the chimes and carillon sound as deep and convincing as they did previously. There is only one explanation I can think of: I was daft enough to have inserted an already flat battery; the one inserted a few minutes ago was new and in its pack, so there is no doubt.I regret my balanced (on the basis of what I thought ths ituation then was), but critical review, even though it was up for a day only.I am happy to reommend this clock for its quality, understated elegance and authenticity in reproducing an antique, mechanical timepiece.(Just be a bit brighter than me and make sure you replace the battery, when needed, with a new one!)

Excellent replacement for family clock
I bought this for my father who is now in a care home and the large family Westminster chime clock was broken and this way I don’t have to worry of others winding the family clock incorrectlyThe build quality was far higher than I expected for the price and the little touches of the fake winders are great as it is hard to spot they are not realThe tone is deep very close to the family large mantle clock which when Dad heard it for the fist time his eyes lit up as it was a comforting sound of ‘home’The nighttime mode is a bonus, it switches off at 2300 and starts again at 0600 perfect to not disturb othersHighly recommend

Great looks and sound
The clock arrived much earlier than expected. The clock is beautiful. The back is of wood and the rim is either wood or plastic, but it really looks good. The sound is great. For me it is a pro that it does not tick and that it has a sound off switch and volume control.I would almost say: even better than a mechanical old clock. It saves you also expensive maintenance on a mechanical clock. All in all: wonderful looks, peefect time and great sound.Am very happy with quality at a very reasonable price.

Basic Information.
The clock appears well made and is a smart traditionally styled timepiece.I cannot speak for its reliability as this review is written after 24 hours of ownership. The supplier had the clock delivered to me within 2 days of ordering, as this included a sea crossing this service is clearly good. The clock is silent in operation. There is no ticking sound. It comes with two types of Chime. "Westminster" and "Dick Whittington"NO, I don't know what "Dick Whittington" is either !For "Westminster" , think "Big Ben" chimes on the World Service or Radio Four. For "Dick Whittington", think generic rising and falling scale. The chimes are akin to a sound "sample"This means that they have depth and body almost like a musical instrument. They have a sweet tone and a reverberation that would normally be heard only from a very large set of bells. The tones are not produced mechanically from within the clock by percussion, or music box style.Think more of recorded chime or electronically generated. You can turn chimes off completely. You can adjust the chimes with a volume control. You can set the clock not to chime between the hours of 11pm - 6pmYou can have the chimes on permanently. The chimes strike the time on the hour. Six chimes equals 6 pm etc.The Hour chimes are preceded by the style music, eg "Big Ben" melody, then the number of chimes for the hour. The quarter hours are indicated by the selected melody length, eg first quarter is a quarter of the full melody, half hour is half of the full melody and three quarter is three quarters of the full melody.Clock runs on one C size battery, (supplied). When battery first inserted the clock chimed randomly. At 10 minutes to the hour I think !Then settled down to work correctly at first hourly chime.Clock can be hung from the wall from a protruding nail of picture hook, as you'd expect.I am pleased with purchase.Time will tell if this continues to be the case. (Geddit?)Hope this helps.
