The Writer's Toolbox: Creative Games and Exercises for Inspiring the 'Write' Side of Your Brain Paperback – 27 April 2007

Gave to a friend for xmas and he has said it there is a lot more going on inside the kit than he had expected. He's currently finding it helpful to inspire his ideas so I reckon it was definately worth the money. Although I'm yet to see the contents myself and think perhaps more images of what's inside may have been helpful before purchase as there weren't really many when I bought it, which left me slightly worried about the quality of the gift. In the end though it worked out great thankfully.

With a little ingenuity you can adapt this to virtually any story, you don't have to go off the idea pieces verbatim, find another way to weave the concept or idea into your theme/setting etc.I put together 1,650~ words for an opener to a story within an hour or so using this [I was taking my time!], and I have only just read some 19 pages of the 64~ page book that accompanies it.While I don't really need this kit, it does have its uses, I was going to return it, but then applied some ingenuity [Yes, that word again] and repurposed it to be more useful for my intentions.May remember to add to this review when I use it more further down the line.

Cool gift for a writer and they really enjoyed it

I often find it difficult to get the creative juices flowing. This is such a wonderful little box of ideas to get your started and create a story line that you didn't even know was in your soul. And wonderful to use regularly to exercise the creative writing 'muscle' or get some writing friends together for an evening of fun to share and create together. This really is a must-have tool for fiction and non fiction writers to get you to think outside of this little box. Thank you!

Great item,I was only made aware of this last week in a creative writing course I'm part of.It's really cool, a great way to get the brain stimulated.Basically end up with randomly generated things to use and you have until the timer runs out to try and write up a paragraph which includes all of the items you selected!It's such a good way to break up the stress when you're mind is blank

Clearly Jamie Cat Callan loves teaching. This is a lovingly crafted package, it's interesting and stimulating and really does help you to clear some headspace and just get writing. It provides structure and an informed perspective on the process. I think this is great for anyone who is interested in writing.

I've found that this works best when coupled with Storymatic Classic. For example, choosing a couple of the senses cards to use in the story adds another dimension. The same can be said for the First Line etc lollipops. The reason for just 3 stars is that many of the prompts, especially those on the 'spinners' are a little dull.When using this on its own, I found myself not following the ideas in the book, but rather mixing the various prompts in the box and forming a plot in my head with them as I wrote.The box is nice and sturdy. This just isn't my prefered prompt tool.

I bought this for my friend's daughter (11years old) and she hasn't put it down for weeks.. she loves writing and it's helped her with ideas and characters.It's not for kids perse but probably would be a but basic for an experienced writer
