good outdoors
This is the best soldering iron for electrical work away from a power source, ie outdoors. Ignition is instant and reliable. Heats up fairly quickly. Good quality and good value.

SOLDERING DREAM
I have had many soldering irons (mostly 240v and average quality) and have always found soldering with them a pain in the *** and they end up in the bin!. Leads too short and tangling, awkward to use, not enough/too much heat, elements/tips breaking way too quickly etc. etc. BUT using this GasCat makes me want to solder again and again. Much smaller than I expected (compared to a Fern gas iron e.g which this will replace) and seems VERY well made. It is so easy to get the perfectly sized tip where you want it. The heat is adjustable and I have found an approx setting of 50-75% works well for most electrical work (not tried jointing though but iron should be hot enough at 60w but might need a bigger tip). Despite it's size it does seem to have enough gas when full for around an hours use as claimed and the heat exhaust given off is directed mostly out of the ignition port so you can keep most of it away from sensitive components and fingers! I haven't properly used the hot knife tip yet but the torch and heating tips are excellent. I can't comment yet on how long it will last but it feels like it is robust. I will update this review in a few months. I totally recommend this iron and the staff at Antex I found very courteous, knowledgeable and very helpful. Very happy chap :) Buy it!

Very useful - instructions a bit lacking but the iron works well once you have fathomed it out. Particularly good using it as a small blowtorch - has a reasonable level of control of heat settings but I'm not sure that I would want to keep it in my pen pocket by utilising the clip-on feature - well recommended for fine work and limited lead burning given sufficient ventilation. Hot air burner very useful for using on heat shrink tubing on electrical work.

Quality product
Quality product and very well produced and finished. Used for a couple of jobs so far but does everything I want it to - lights easily, reaches temperature quickly and is very easy to handle. Good that you can buy spare tips too. I would definitely recommend and wish I'd bought one before.

Very good piece of kit
The item was delivered within two days. Performance is very good for the price. The sole downside was that the instructions did not make it clear which bit was the gas flame and which was the hot air blower. However, once discovered, it is a very versatile and useful tool. It is quite small, which makes it ideal for fiddly work. I would recommend it.

Gas soldering iron
Fantastic bit of kit, soldered a few things now and love it -- only burnt myself once! It's a little bit chunkier than its wired equivalent, but still wonderfully agile. The only downsides I've come across are that it isn't easy to start with the flint you're given (so I keep a lighter with it), and if the thing you're soldering is in a confined space the heat from the gas ignition might damage other components. Other than those minor points it's a pretty good soldering iron and should last me a very long time.+ Made in Ireland and can purchase replacement parts.
