Excellent
A brilliant product. Saves a lot of time, but more importantly, it helps achieve a perfect wrap with one hand, the other supporting the guitar, and guiding the string. I just use the winder until its tight, then finish off tuning by hand. Modern guitars with string locking machine heads aren't so bad, but old guitars where the string just wraps several times round the machine head are more difficult, which is where this device comes into its own. Because its made easy, you find yourself changing strings when needed, rather than putting it off, and risking a string break in front of 30,000 people. (OK, well at least my wife and the dog)

Essential
If you have frequent changes of string this is a must, good solid build and allows good string tension from wind on.

Sledge hammer to crack a nut
When I first seen this advertised, I had to have it. Having seen other guitar repair guys using a converted drill bit and regular string winder head with their hand drill - which is basically what this device is - i thought this would be really handy. I used it a couple of times on my own guitars and some that came in for restringing / repair. It was a bit of a novelty at first, and it worked not too bad, but I was back using my trusty manual string winder very quickily once the novelty wore off. The device sat in my tool cupboard unsed for about a year. When I was asked to restring 60 classical guitars for the local authority, I suddenly remembered the PowerPeg. I thought that this tool would come into its own and earn its keep at long last! However 2 or 3 guitars into the job, I chucked the PowerPeg to the side and picked up my old string winder again. The manual winder was far more precise and responsive and just as quick. Also I am not sure the motor on this would have lasted such a big job - although to be fair it probably was not designed to be.Save yourself a few quid and buy a regular string winder - not a £1.99 one - they will not last. Take a look at the Planet Waves and Jim Dunlop ones to start with. Jim Dunlop Roadpro Guitar String Winder

Great Little Device
I received my Ernie Ball PowerPeg as a birthday present some months ago; I've used it many times now and can say it is a great little device. I like it not mainly for the time-saving aspect, but for the reason that it allows me to make a tidier job of the windings when putting the new strings on. I use the Taylor guitars method for changing strings, and the PowerPeg makes the whole process that bit easier and neater. It has a switch lock to stop it operating accidently. The main trigger is a sort of rocker set-up, with pressure to the top of the trigger unwinding and pressure to the bottom of the trigger, winding. The head fits neatly onto various sized tuning pegs, from the full sized, to the slightly smaller on my GS Mini and the even smaller on my Yamaha SLG100s. The rotation speed is about right, of course it is not stepless (difficult to get a stepless speed screwdriver, so wasn't expecting this to have that option). Battery life seems fine; I've been using mine for 9 months, and have done about 20 string changes and I'm still on my first set of Duracells. The only negative aspect, for which I've deducted a star, is that the PowerPeg does not come with batteries included; so make sure you have 4 AA batteries handy.

Bought two. Both faulty.
These things are rubbish. I bought two and both did not work, even using top brand batteries. Cheap plastic junk.
