Mixed feelings!
Mixed feelings! The 3 main characters were engaging, and the plot very interesting. The language wasn't terribly Regency, and there were silly spelling mistakes ("peek" for "peak", for example), and Tanloon? A place in Yorkshire? We have some wonderful old place names up here but this sounds more like mainland China to me.Oh yes, and I prefer my Regency-style novels without sex scenes: that said, I thought these were very well done. So, although I was a bit irritated, I was also engaged, and am off to look for Book 2 in the series. :)

Another excellent start to a new series
Another excellent start to a new series, Wynne is an amazingly self sufficient and strong willed woman thanks to her Grandfather, but she has suffered a trauma and doing what the mind does best for protection it has forgotten what happened. Rowen we have seen in another of KJ Jackson's books, and this is his and Wynn story. Saving Wynne from a thief, then having to convince her she is in England not America is Rowen has an amusing if not frustrating time on his hands and the Dowager Duchess is making is life hell.Rowen helps Wynne fill in the holes in her memory, but will a miscommunication and different points of view see them apart and betrothed to others? The book has its twists and turns and a very chilling villain, and will put you through a variation of emotions before the end. already bought the next installment in the series.

The Duke was full of self-doubt
Clever plot device to start the book (and to cover any Americanisms in the writing). As other reviewers have mentioned, the Duke seems to have few resources of his own to employ, so ends up doing a lot himself. It makes a welcome change for the heroine to have some ability rather than just being able to run a house.

Interesting and engaging
Enjoyable read, I found the beginning a bit incredulous and wondered how the tale was going to proceed, but, it did improve. Some good characters in this book. Unsolved riddles, who is she? What happened? Why is he called by initials? Etc.The Duchess is a mystery too, so, all in all a good read.Enjoy

Reasonable
Plot was good if confusing, strongest character was the dowager duchess , the duke was an idiot, Wynne too good to be true

Well done
It is amazing how the variety of subjects in these stories are so different. You are really embarking on a voyage of discovery, superb plots and really interesting characters. Enjoy.

Good read with complex storyline
A new author to me and a welcome one. This is not the usual bland account of a series of balls so many historical novels become. This has an interesting and somewhat convoluted storyline that is not easy to guess. Gripping to the end with twists even in the last paragraph. Limited sexual accounts thankfully. I highly recommend this for someone who wants a more involved read. I shall be buying more

disappointing perhaps it sells well in America but too many Americanism s for me
I have been looking for a new historical romance writer for years and from the reviews I thought this was going to be it so disappointed. I want a novel that makes me feel I am in the period there were far too many Americanism in this which were out of place . Also did not want a bodice ripper! I like novels that leave it to my imagination I love Austen, Gaskell, and Heyer. For austen and gaskell it is easier writing of the time at the time that is why Heyer is so good her historical research is second to none . I forced myself to read to the end in the hope that it might improve it didn't.
