More than an eye... and what an eye!
Would that all art criticism rose to this level!Pellucid, scholarly and above all keen-eyed.Too often, the latter quality seems hardly to get a look-in when books of this kind are discussed. Did the writer actually look at the painting? And how good was his/her eyesight?Obviously I mean this in more than the literal sense. As if to prove that Paglia looks, and finds, more than most, I am ashamed to say that nearly every detail she spotted in Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon eluded me. (NB: she has ferreted out the painting's real title, Mon Bordel.) And that's after parking myself in front of this giant canvas in MOMA for nearly an hour!It is not so much that Paglia is good, the other critics not so good. It would be more accurate to classify nearly all of them as god-awful, and the great Professor as sublime, inspired, brilliant. Nowadays, we don't have criticism — of books or art — that rises to the level of literature. It's not thin on the ground, it's nonexistent. Paglia alone carries that torch, standing amidst the wreckage of French deconstructionism.Long may she prosper. Where is the generation coming up behind her? Shame on you... for not existing!

Very Enjoyable!
Camille Paglia is always a stimulating read, hope to read more from her in the future. Greatly resent the word-minimum requirement to post a Review, I almost cancelled my Review for this reason.

"Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith" Greatest work of art of this generation? Are you serious?
A really mediocre movie, with an horrible tv-movie-like direction "the greatest work of art of this generation"??? Are you serious???This idea is really ludicrous... not just in respect of the Star Wars saga, or the sci-fi genre, or the cinema of the last quarter of century (There will be blood, The Dark Knight, Wall-E, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, The Collateral, etc... you can name at least one hundred movie wich have artistic merits), but also it's simply a laughable idea of putting this vile merchandising-driven product atop of every work in every signle field of art, jeez...[...]
