Get this book ASAP if you want to learn how to make the most gorgeous calligraphy.

Like most people, I did my research and read all the reviews I could while looking for the right beginners calligraphy book. I bought a separate book for Copperplate, and I bought this book specifically to work on modern calligraphy styles. I feel that I definitely made the right choice.This is a great book, perfect for me to be able to produce some half-decent calligraphy straightaway, though clearly regular practice is needed for consistency and confidence! (I have a Rhodia dotPad and Tombow Fudenosuke hard black calligraphy pen that are perfect for this). The author is also encouraging about developing your own style, both for lettering and composition, and provides some short guidance and inspiration that is a good starting point. 5 Letterforms of Modern Calligraphy are set out, with further Sections on Brush lettering (with an additional 4 Letterforms of Brush lettering), and a short section on chalk lettering which is a fun addition, but is not the real focus of the book. A final, more substantial chapter with project suggestions is really useful and great for future inspiration.

The content of the book is fine, but I’m certainly not pleased with the copy I received. However as it was from Amazon (not the marketplace) I can’t see where I can leave feedback on the vendor. Basically it was clear when it arrived that it had been very well thumbed and was certainly not new, and on the first time I read it the cover came off the spine!The book is still readable and I could mend it, but I’m seriously tempted to send it back because this is not the new copy I paid for. Will be very reluctant to order books from Amazon again. Disappointed, but clearly not the fault of the author.

I did a modern calligraphy workshop with Imogen at Quill London after struggling to progress with my calligraphy alone and it was an informative, fun and friendly session. I left with tips (how I held the pen, how I sat!) and confidence to continue so when I saw Imogen had a book due out, naturally I had to buy it.I feel like I'm doing the class again - it's refreshed in my mind some of the things she taught. What's surprised me is how much MORE there is in the book - chalk lettering, brush lettering, alphabets to trace and be inspired from; all written in an easy to understand, straightforward way with great diagrams and beautiful photos.Buy this book. Buy two copies 'cos you'll probably splatter the first copy with ink as it's going to be on your desk a lot as you write.Thanks Imogen - great great book. Love it.

This is by far the best book on modern calligraphy I have seen. I am a beginner and it tells and shows you everything you need to know. It has been invaluable. It also moves on to other projects, making your own inks, stationery etc once you feel more confident. I have a few calligraphy books and this beats them all hands down.

Great book, I just started working through it today and it's great, you don't need a lot of materials and they are quite cheap and Imogen has made it very easy to follow. I did some practice today and my boyfriend didn't realise it was what I did, he thought it was in a book!

A great handbook to learn the basics step by step. My friend had been on one of Imogen's courses and recommended her method. Highly recommend.

Very happy with this book. I have others and they are a little... dull. This book however, is laid out well for beginners ans those who have been practising a shiet while. Plus it has wedding ideas, chalk lettering and general lettering support. Win win really!

Livro excelente para Caligrafia porém veio descolando o na lombada, na capa e costuras entre as folhas completamente aparentes! Parece que as folhas irão se soltar a qlq momento. Para um livro que precisa ser muito manuseado o trabalho de acabamento pós impressão é pessimo. Logo logo ficará capenga.

I am a freelance illustrator (mostly watercolors) and lately I've been intrigued by calligraphy and fauxlligraphy. I play around with different pens and styles on my own, but I wanted a nice printed book explaining the ins and outs of modern calligraphy. I love this book because it gets straight to the point, it's an easy read and the whole book is well organized. I like how the author explains different ways you can apply calligraphy to just about anything, even glass or rocks. And she also tells you the products she uses too, without it sounding like an ad. The book cover is pretty, and the length of the book is just right - not too short, not too long. My favorite part is the examples of brush lettering alphabets she includes in full pages so you can reference them and practice on your own (I just use an old sketchbook). I normally don't buy art books but I'm glad I got this one!

Te explica tal cual como trazar, y te enseña a usar pluma, gis y acuerela. Es muy útil si estas iniciando con esto del lettering.

Finalmente un libro con poche pagine di esercizi e tanti spunti. Interessante, molto chiaro e ben impaginato.Molto molto soddisfatta.

I am new to Calligraphy but felt this book was very helpful in guiding me with answering questions and giving examples that I needed. I am sure as I continue to grow in my new found hobby, I will view this book as a good source for guidance. It is very easy to understand and in many cases gives you a variety of options.
