Arduino for Musicians: A Complete Guide to Arduino and Teensy Microcontrollers Hardcover – Illustrated, 26 May 2016

I’ve a fair amount of experience using Arduinos and other microcontrollers, I’ve been programming for many years professionally and made a lot of electronic projects. I’m an amateur musician and was keen to start using microcontrollers to generate electronic music. So I read the reviews and bought the book, then wondered if any of the reviewers has actually read it.The good points are that it’s a nicely produced book, well laid out and unusually for an Arduino book has an index and a chapter by chapter list of references. Some of the pictures lack contrast though.However the problems I have with the content boil down to three things, firstly it’s trying to be all things to all readers and failing, secondly the writer gets lost in the detail and looses the reader. Thirdly I had expected a lot more, simple, Arduino and Teensy projects, in the Arduino tinkering/hacking ethos rather than the few complicated ones presented. The book is more of a first year undergraduate text than something the average schoolchild or “three chord trick” guitarist might understand, And, from a professional point of view, the author’s views on the superiority of C++ are not shared by a lot of programmers who see C++ as a curse.If you must buy this book,( it’s pretty good on Midi and the projects look interesting) and you don’t know much about Arduino I would suggest you get a copy of Jeremy Blum’s excellent “Exploring Arduino” book for the electronics and Arduino hardware aspects, the Make “Getting Started with Arduino” by Banzi and Shilo for the hacking ethos side of things.

Overall a good book about Midi. I would have liked kind of higher end projects.

Great book

I like this book, but when it comes to programming, it has all the basics other arduino programming tutorials have, but don't break it down to be helpful for non-programmers. If you're into that, then great. Otherwise you're stuck with the same brick wall that makes working with arduinos difficult. No better or worse, but more of the same, though this time in the context of music.

molti temi sono già' trattati in altri libri, non approfondisce, secondo me, gli utilizzi specifici nella musica come mi sarei aspettato, si deve ricorrere alla documentazione delle librerie on-line e dato le dimensioni importanti del libro avrei preferito avere qualche info in più', sebbene destinata all'obsolescenza, che non dover continuamente passare dalla carta allo schermo. interessante comunque

Mal einen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten. Gefällt mir gut. Vor allem der Teensy Teil.

Libro notevole e, oserei dire, obbligatorio per chi vuole sperimentare con l'audio su Arduino. Tocca anche argomenti più complessi come la programmazione dei Timer/Counter (essenziali per la sintesi audio su Arduino) e la progettazione di un convertitore digitale-analogico. Consigliatissimo.Spedizione Amazon rapida e impeccabile.

Conteúdo precioso e avançado! Microcontroladores são ótimas ferramentas para desenvolver coisas novas na área de música e instrumentos!

Perfecto tanto si eres usuario habitual de Arduino y quieres profundizar en sus posibilidades musicales, como si eres músico y quieres explorar el lado DIY de la música.

I was easily able to fix my step sequencer with this book and you will learn everything else so you know what to Google if you have a problem!

Many referenced arduino shields are no longer existent. This book needs a revision. Many example sound files links won’t work as well.

Excelente, bien escrito, claro, y muy completo.

Endlich mal ein Buch, das hält, was der Titel verspricht und auch für mich als erfahrenen Lötkolbenartisten und Programmierer noch einige Überraschungen und hilfreiche Lösungen parat hat. Auch grundlegende Theorien kommen nicht zu kurz. Man merkt, dass dieses Thema eine Herzensangelegenheit des Autors ist.Sicher kann man sich einen Teil der Informationen auch aus dem Internet fischen, wenn man weiß, wie man die Suche geschickt formuliert (worin häufig die Schwierigkeit liegt), aber ich ziehe es vor, mich mit einem solch tollen Buch zunächst mal in eine gemütliche Ecke zurück zu ziehen und den beabsichtigten Synthesizer gedanklich zu planen.Absolute Empfehlung für alle, die sich für Synthesizer und MIDI-Equipment mit vergleichsweise geringem (finanziellen) Aufwand interessieren.

Bestes Arduino Buch vong Inhalt her AMK! Mega Informativ, für Anfänger oder Profi's hilfreich. Eine menge Projekte zum Nachbauen, sowie Inspiration vong Gedanken her!

This book has a pretty good overview for programming Arduino code for some music applications. However, I had hoped for a more in depth analysis of MIDI, MIDI CC, Quantizing, and implementations of arduino for synthesis applications. This is more about making instruments.I'm also happy to learn about the concepts presented in this book, but the approach was a bit snoozy, and none of it was inspiring. I hope other people get more out of it than I did.

This book is okay. There are some good ideas and projects. However 50 percent is teaching you to program arduino. I am proficientIn C/C++. I felt letdown.

Very good intro to Arduino for those who know a bit about music theory. Also a good intro to taking your Arduino projects a bit further by soldering and putting everything into boxes.
