Cute story and pretty cover
The book came in good condition with no trouble. But after an extended use (used for an assignment) the first few pages came off.The cover and the design of the pages are very pretty. I don't usually come across such detailed designs on pages. The story was quite enjoyable. I found myself liking more than expected and I would re-read it again. It is a very middle-grade type of story but I think even young adults with nostalgia for fantasy books will enjoy this story. It's predictable but it has a lot of emotion in it which made up for the plot.

Loved this book!
Isabella or Isa as she is known by in the book lives on an island called Joya with her cartographer father. Forbidden to leave her town of Gromera by the governor, Isa is desperate to discover the forbidden land surrounding Gromera just as her father use too. When Isa's best friend Lupe wanders into the forbidden land Isa is first to volunteer in the search for her, equipped with her father's cartography equipment and full of bravery.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Isa is young girl full of imagination and bravery. Her friendship with Lupe I found adorable because even though they were opposites they still both cared for each other. Both characters were lost in their own way. Isa from losing her brother and mother and Lupe because she was the governors daughter, a governor that brought strict rules to Gromera so wasn't well liked within the town. Their friendship is strong even when they disagreed and you see that build and grow throughout the book. On her adventure in this book, Isabella is filled with strength and bravery and is a courageous friend that leads her friend to and from danger.I enjoyed the friendship between Pablo and Isa and even though it was fractured to begin with, Pablo didn't have to stop and think of helping Isa on her adventures, he cared enough to put her first. I would have liked to see more character build up between them though. As a whole I did find this book slow to start of with but once I hit a certain part I just couldn't put it down. The maps in this book showing Joya are absolutely beautiful and really gives the book a boost. This story is filled with magic and mythical creatures and I love the imagation and creativity that this book is filled with to bring the story to life. I feel there is some parts that could have been looked into more like the governor and why he was in Gromera and about the banished but overall it was a sweet book that I really enjoyed.

An extraordinary read!
Nahima Age 11 - I rated this as 5 stars because it is mysterious and adventurous. The descriptions are so good that you can hear the sounds and see the pictures in your head. It would be better if there were a collection of these booksArune Age 10 - I think Kiran is a brilliant author. There is a great use of words (butterflies in my stomach is one of my favourite) It is full of adventure and lots of creativity.Emily Age 11 - This is an amazing book full of mystery and adventure. It is a great read after a serious book, or at any time - I loved it! With the main character being s strong female character it makes a brilliant book. Sometimes it can be a little rushed and confusing, but don't let that put you off!Nadiyah Age 10 - An amazing enjoyable for children and adults. It was incredible, I was very sad when it ended. The characters and the storyline should make it an award winning book. The scenery was described so well.Bracken Age 10 - Great magical book, I would definitely pick up this book in a shop and buy buy. I recommend this book because it makes you wonder and the language is amazing, however it can sometimes be a little complicated, but altogether it is a great book!Mrs Fullwood (age withheld) - I have so enjoyed our journey through this book with these wonderful Y6 girls. We have all explored this magic and mystery together, unpicking the language and feeling all the emotion - I've loved it!

Fantastical
Such a beautiful read. I was transported into the world of my inner child. In a healing and connected way. The journey was shocking, awe inspiring, frustrating, sad, lonely, scary but also so hear warming and precious. Hands down recommendation from this 45 year old she girl 💚

Some good bits.
I'm always looking for new books for bedtime stories with my 10 and 12 year olds. Very difficult to find something they both (And I) really enjoy. This story has some good bits and some likeable characters and we all thought it was ok but none of us really loved it.

Histoire pas terrible
Livre acheté pour un cours d’anglais. Il est relativement simple a comprendre, mais je n’ai pas été emballée par l’histoire.

It's kind of a weird book, you have to really pay attention when you're reading it. I didn't really understand the reasons for a lot of things that happened but it was a fun read. I don't know if I would read it again but I probably would recommend it to someone wanting a different read. Overall I'm happy with the purchase

How magical
The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave is a magical book about friendship, adventures, myths and courage. When Lupe disappears into the Forgotten Territories, thirteen-year-old Isabella volunteers to help finding her. Her knowledge of the stars and maps is great help to find her friend. As she is the cartographer's daughter she has the opportunity to finally draw a map of the island she lives on. But the journey is not easy and myths about the island become true.First of all, let me tell you how beautiful this book looks. I have never seen such a magnificent book. Not only the cover is amazing, but the pages itself look awesome! The book is worth buying only because of its looks. I would give 5 stars only for how it looks! I love all the small details on the cover and on the pages. And what do people say about maps in books? All good books have a map in them. And this is true with this book. The story itself was magical. The author put lots of myths into the story, which made it so magical and mystical. The stories which are told in the book, are very interesting. They reminded me of stories how an island was made. I love how our heroine believes in all the traditional myths and saves the island by doing so. Isa is a really lovely young girl. She is nearly too mature for her age and has a knowledge lots of adults in the books don't have. Her friend Lupe is also a kind girl. She has a "better" life than Isa, because her father is the Governor. But she loves to be friends with Isa and likes the simple ways of life. She enjoys the stories Isa tells her and fights for what she thinks is right. Pablo is a friend of Isa, he is fifteen years old and helps searching for Lupe. He is a really nice guy and I'm glad Isa has him as a friend. The book is titled as a children's book and I can totally see why. But it is enjoyable also for adults. It catapults you into another world, which still feels very real. Something I did not really like, is that all those young people seem too mature for their age. But all in all, the book was really good. I really recommend it.
