Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage [DVD] [2008]

Well acted, and warm Christmas atmosphere! Great to see Peter Otoole in I think his last performance!

This is truly an amazing christmas story. It bring hope, love, joy, community sprit, family heartbreak, an amazing story.I first bought this movie as I was interested to see how Jared Padalecki acted outside of horror. I already knew he had the ability to do good drama but, wanted to see him in a different light. I was'nt disappointed. For someone so young to play the emotional scenes alongside Peter O'Toole and make it really convincing was amazing. He really is a very talented actor.Once I had watched it I wanted to watch it again. Everytime I watch I always get something new out of it. It seems fresh each time in so many different ways.It is based on a true story of a young artist struggling to find a place in the art world where he can make a difference. He has left his home town for the big city in order to do this. As yet nothing has happened. It is on a return journey home with his brother that he find out who he really is and how he can make a difference in not only his life but those around him. He is able through his painting to bring the whole community together and to help them all realise they each have an important part to play in each others lives, even the dogs have a part to play.Since watching this movie I have looked up the work of Thomas Kinkade and it is truly magical. I would recomend anyone to do this, he brings a whole new meaning to the word LIGHT. I have never seen painting like his before.

I bought this because one of the reviews said "if there is a Christmas film you would want to see each year its this one". I was curious. I loved this film and will be watching it every year. It is inspiring and made me see things a bit differently.

I love Thomas Kincaide pictures. I've had several calenders showing his enchanting artwork in the past. I didn't realise the film was actually about the real man. I had purchased it because I knew Peter O'Toole was in it. I enjoyed the film. A nice feelgood story for Christmas.

This is a movie which is sure to divide people. It is based on the early life of Thomas Kinkade, "the painter of light". It is a story of the sources of his inspiration:his mentor,and how the difficulties faced by his mother provided a motivation through which he began to find himself.Its weakness is that it isn't sure of its own purpose.It is certainly not a biography or a christmas movie in the ordinary sense and its comedic moments often miss the mark.In many ways it is like a Kinkade picture: a little sugary and sentimental yet with a warmth and humanity that can touch our hopes for a world where we all have a place and where everything comes out alright in the end However,it it isn't grounded in the reality of the world as we know it. The script is very uneven,occasionally very hammy,yet produces some fine moments. Peter o' Toole's performance as Tom's mentor, rapidly approaching dotage and a loss of his powers is a fine one and justifies a viewing.I also enjoyed the background music.Not for anyone who shrinks from sentimentality,but overall I'm glad I watched it.

Not the sort of oversweet, samey Christmas film that we are getting on Channel 5 at the moment.Set in 1977 in a rather down at heel town with down at heel residents. Based on a true story. I liked it.

A movie a lot like his art and loved for a reason

a very emotional movie and a nice Christmas one

Ich bin durch Zufall auf diesen Film gestoßen, da ich nach dem Schauspieler Jared Padalecki gesucht habe. Nachdem ich mir den Trailer angesehen habe war ich sofort begeistert und wollte den Film sehen!Leider gibt es ihn nur auf Englisch, was ich wirklich schade finde, denn im Film ist der amerikanische Akzent ist vorallem bei Hauptdarsteller Jared Padalecki manchmal sehr schwer zu verstehen. Man muss sich also etwas konzentrieren um alles zu verstehen.Die Geschichte ist wirklich schön, passend zur Weihnachtszeit!Ich wünschte, er würde bald noch auf deutsch synchronisiert werden!

Film piacevole

j'ai été très déçu par film que je me suis forcée à regarder jusqu'au bout. Il y a un ou deux bon sentiments pas de surprise et pour moi pas vraiment la magie de Noël mais plutôt une caricature

Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage ist m.E. ein absolut empfehlenswerter Film mit viel Witz und Charme. An vielen Stellen konnte ich herzlich lachen, an anderen widerum ein Tränchen verdrücken. Die Hauptdarsteller Peter O'Toole und Jered Padalecki spielen ihre Rollen ausgesprochen warmherzig und leicht.Ich habe den Film sehr gerne geschaut und auch ohne hervorragende Englischkenntnisse kann man die Dialoge sehr gut verstehen.Fazit: Ein Film zum genießen, ohne Blutvergießen und Aktion !
