DIY Dollhouse: Build and Decorate a Toy House Using Everyday Materials

My eleven year old granddaughter was enchanted with this book.
She couldn’t wait for her party to be over so she could start trying her hand at making dollhouse furniture.

Great Ideas!
I really love the ideas and DIY way of recycling things I read about in this book. I think it could use a few more basic starting tips for first-time Dollhouse Makers. Also, some of the dollhouses in the photos look cheaply made even though I have made some really great dollhouses from recycled items on my own. Otherwise, its a great book!

Perfect for Dollhouse Camps!
Don't listen to the negative review below! I think that person was looking for a "hobby dollhouse" where everything is perfect and realistic. If you are an art studio teacher or your child has attended a dollhouse camp, I highly recommend this book! I just got done teaching my first dollhouse camp and my students poured over the book every day. They would then go home every evening and look for items in their recycling bin to bring to camp and create furniture out of! The projects are fun, funky, handmade...so don't order if you are looking for furniture that you find at Hobby Lobby. These projects are much more creative than than that!

Fascinating!
This will be a gift, but I glanced through it and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Using recucled objects to create her own doll house will keep her busy for awhile. She's already a little carpenter.

Let your imagination be your decorator.
This charming book shows the steps for creating doll house furniture out of everyday items. A perfect how-to book for moms and daughters (and grandmothers and granddaughters) to design and build small furnishings and accessories for a dollhouse.

Poor workmanship
I am disappointed! The rooms and furniture are poorly executed.

Very basic
After reading various reviews I decided to buy this as it was for my crafty 11 year old daughter (rather than a serious dolls house miniaturist). However, the ideas were incredibly basic and apart from the wire chair ideas there was nothing that she hadn't made herself without a book when she was much younger....

Not for serious doll houses
Filled with quirky ideas and helpful hints. This isn't for people who buy expensive doll house kits and intend to accurately reproduce miniature versions of everything. It is however a great way for my daughter and I to spend rainy afternoons together at the kitchen table building lots of rooms in small boxes out of random stuff from my craft boxes and amazon envelopes. There are lots of good photos and plenty of instructions on how to build a myriad of things out of looroll and empty boxes. We are having lots of fun with this book.
