It definitely works.
A guitar technician turned me onto this product and I don’t regret it. This is a perfect way to keep my expensive guitars at the right humidity level. I bought the little cloth bag to suspend it over and around my strings and into the sound box. Works great.

Great Concept
My violin teacher recommended this highly. The idea is to maintain a consistent humidity level inside a violin case (or other instrument) regardless of seasonal changes, etc.

Easy way to maintain humidity
I have been using these packets to maintain humidity for my wooden instruments for over 8 years now. They are the easiest and cleanest way to keep the humidity level up especially in our harsh Buffalo winters where our humidity indoors can be below 20%. Unlike other methods there is never a worry for the development of mold or mildew. They are also good at keeping humidity down in the summer however I do not find them to be as efficient doing so. When measured with several humidity gauges I find the packets to be within 10% of the numbers on the packets.Interesting note, the instructions state to discard when they become dry, however I have rejuvinated all of my dried packets by placing them in ziploc freezer bags with a drenched sponge. Over a day or so they will soften back up and work as well as when I first bought them.

Not maintaining 49% inside my case
I purchased these for my vintage Martin acoustic. First, I calibrated my hygrometer, which is an expensive Bluetooth model, which I can monitor them inside my case when I’m away. Next I put desiccant packs in my case with the guitar inside to bring the humidity down as close as I could to 49%. I was able to achieve 52% and then I installed three of the packs inside the Guitar and closed the case. Not long after I closed the case the humidity began to slowly creep up from 52% to 55 then 56%. It appears that these things release humidity more than they absorb it, at least in my experience. For the price I expected these things to lower my humidity to very close to 49% relatively quickly but that’s not what I’m seeing so I’m probably gonna end up returning them.
