No, but I always buffed my nails and pushed back my cuticles first. Also, use the Nail Primer with it.

It's a gel builder, not a polish. You need the Orly Builder in a Bottle Nail Primer to go under it. I also recommend cleaning your nails with alcohol first, then thr primer, then the Builder in a Bottle. There are instructions for how to use on Orly's website.

This isn't a polish. It's a builder system - think fake salon nails, but at home with this product. You use the nail forms to shape the gel and, once you harden it with a UV lamp, you have fake gel nails. So you need the nail primer (it's called Nail Primer, not a base coat) but don't need a top coat, though you could use one if desired. You could also paint on top of this.

Yes, this does require a lamp to cure the gel. I use an LED lamp for regular gel polish and it works well for the Builder in a Bottle. Orly has complete instructions on their website for the process. It does take some getting used to, but I love the results.
