Feels like a new car again.
As my 2014 Infiniti reached approximately 88,000 miles. I was concerned about the CVT. The car was driving fine, with no problems at all, but I know that the fluid had to be getting murky by now and wanted to extend the life of the CVT because I've heard they die quite young; so I decided to change the fluid. Now most mechanics will recommend that it shouldn't be changed at such a high mileage if it hasn't been changed before because there's a risk that it could cause other problems. They will tell you this because they don't want the liability if it happens to fail after they change it. After all, you're likely to sue them. Most people who want their fluid changed for the first time at a high mileage are doing so only because they are already having issues with the CVT; so it is more likely that there is already damage done and changing it is more likely to fail. This is why mechanics shy away from changing it. It's not their car, they don't know anything about how it was driven and if it's already experiencing transmission problems; but you do.What I recommend is if the mileage is high and you're not seeing any problems with the CVT, you should open the overfill plug and leak some of the fluid into your hand. If the fluid isn't burnt (it would have a very foul smell if it is) and you don't feel grit when rubbing it between your index and thumb, I would give it a green light to change it. I've seen people change their fluid with over 100K on it without any issues.Make sure you drop the pan, clean out the two magnets and change the filter. You'll see a lot of metal paste on these magnets. This is normal wear and these magnets are supposed to catch the metal before it reaches the filter or the filter will clog, restricting fluid to the transmission which will cause it to eat itself. So make sure you are thorough. When these magnets become saturated with metal paste, they can no longer catch any more and your filter will get all clogged. I put my filter under a microscope and found that it was about 25% restricted. I caught it at a good time. MAKE SURE THOSE MAGNETS ARE CLEAN AND THE FILTER IS REPLACED OR YOU ARE JUST WASTING YOUR MONEY.Don't worry about the cost of all this; it will pay for itself in fuel costs because the transmission will run more efficiently, burning less fuel. You'll notice the RPM's will be lower at cruising speed because the engine won't have to work so hard to move the vehicle the same distance. My wife and I can see there is now a lot more pep when accelerating. We do a lot of long distance driving (300+ miles) and we have seen a noticeable difference in fuel consumption just by where the gas gauge ends up at the end of our trip. It actually feels like a new car.You can buy other brands of fluid as long as it's compatible. I chose OEM, but if I was hurting for money, non-OEM is better than not changing it at all.

OEM fluid = Safe Bet
Having used aftermarket Valvoline Max transmission fluid in the past and having mixed results, I decided to go OEM. No regrets, my 2013 G37 shifts great.

OEM ATF
Used to change transmission fluid in my Xterra PRO4x. Is the spec fluid called for in owners manual. Anyone who knows about cars will tell you to not mix, nor swap from OEM fluids. I adhere to this school of thought also. Is worth the higher price for peace of mind.
