Pakol House Handmade Pakols - Chitrali Cap/Afghani/Hat Custom Made in Pakistan

I'm no pakol expert, but this one was made in Pakistan and seems legit. The tag states that it comes from Bazaar Islamabad in Peshawar City, Pakistan, which is close to the border with Afghanistan. I have Prime and while this wasn't included with Prime shipping, it did arrive from the Pakol House warehouse in Texas in about five days.Color: Ordered the dark brown and the color that arrived is exactly the same as in the product photo. All of my photos here show the color fairly accurately, as well, barring the close-up shot showing the fabric's texture. I really wish this pakol was offered in an deep olive green, like I've seen elsewhere, but do like the selection available through Pakol House.Material: Without the means for independent testing, I, of course, cannot be 100% certain, but this really does seem to be felted wool (see close-up photo accompanying my review). The hat is lined with what is likely to be cotton or some sort of cotton/poly blend.Fit: I have a medium to large sized women's head and this pakol not only fits, but has plenty of room to spare. I also have a lot of thick, curly hair, so would assume that it would fit many larger men's sizes heads, as well. If size is a concern, you can find information on the internet about stretching these out, which can help make them even more roomy.The brim unrolls about 6", for those who like to wear them lower down or to cover more of your head. You would not want to unroll this fully, however, as that would expose the loose fabric scraps used as a support to roll the brim around. Ordered light brown hat, but the hat that was sent was like a creme/light khaki. I contacted Pakol House and they explained this years batch of light browns came a little more on the lighter side. They tried updating the listing with some pics of this but they came out similar to the pics there since the color variation is subtle.They were able to send me the correct hat color. They even sent me pictures of the hat before sending it out for me to verify.

Great headgear! Very warm, well made, and I get lots of compliments from people. If you want winter head gear, that is functional as well as visually appealing this is the one.If hat is to loose or to tight, you can adjust how loose or tight the roll is for a better fit. I have a larger (7 3/4) hat size and needed to loosen it slightly. Fits perfect now.

Here's the deal, the first one I ordered fit my 7 year old, I contacted the company and they apologized, and sent a larger one. Then I received an email that they have larger ones in all colors, so I ordered them. They had gone back to the craftsmen and asked for larger hats, and that's what they received. To my knowledge, these are the only Pakols that will fit an American adult.The hats are authentic, comfortable, very well made (4-5 stitchings, inserts, etc), and the seller I worked with (Pakolhouse) is extremely responsive and wants to make things right. Highly recommend.

I think it's for guys, but will enjoy bending that stereotype. It is a little itchy around the ears and the top sticks out flat: I will wash it and see if that settles it. But the white color is lovely and soft, like white sheep, and the size is just right. There is a bit of wool cloth padding to bulk up the roll, which I removed, but wish I had just left it authentically round. It is totally authentic, yes! And if you are caught in the wild with cold feet, you can unroll it into a sturdy wool bag and put your feet in it as you sleep; or carry quite a lot of apples in it. Lovely reminder of those beautiful mountains and the tough guys who own them!

This hat is made of excellent quality wool with a cotton lining and warm. Easy to adjust by unrolling or rolling up the band. This hat is as close to an ancient Kausia as you are going to find. For historic collecting, reenacting or SCA portraying of a Hoplite of Alexander the great, this was the style of hat they wore when not wearing bronze helmets. It's a good buy, great price and very well made.

Husband likes the versatility of this hat. Can be shaped many different ways. Works outdoors, keeps his head warm
