Useful to get kids into the exam and its requirements
Helped as the school had not helped provided a good level of insight which made up for that. The test’s online resources are also helpful. Just be careful though to buy the book which aligns with the current exam arrangements as they do change from time to time

Impressive, thorough and very good value
The book might seem challenging when you first start but as you gradually work through the exercises you pick up a huge number of techniques and ways of thinking which help improve your timing. I don't think you can do it without this book. Each section provide greatly varied questions and the real value is in the way the answers are set out as this is what you learn the most from. ISC have made no secret of the fact that they don't see any value in including the really easy questions that can come up in the exam. So you will find that the average level of difficulty of those contained in the book is higher than the averag difficulty of the questions at the exam. It does however mean that you focus harder and so most likely achieve a higher score. I took my test on Friday and managed to get 870 in QR, 750 in VR, 790 in AR and 770 in DM. With level 1 for situational judgement.

Please use other resources as well if you intend to buy
Although this book is well written, I don't think it's the ideal resource for practicing for the UCAT. The UCAT is a computer based exam, and practicing questions via an entirely different medium proves counter productive, as it requires a different set of skills doing a paper exam compared to a digital exam. For example, the shortcuts on the UCAT are key in order to save time and answer questions efficiently. These include alt+n, alt+p, alt+f, to skip, go back and flag questions. Furthermore, learning how to use a keyboard numpad quickly is practically a required skill in order to score highly on the quantitative reasoning section. I would only recommend this book in conjunction with other computer based resources such as Medify. I would recommend this book if you are in the very early stages of revision, a few months before the exam to acclimatise to the questions. Then, once you feel like you have some understanding of each of the sections, move on to a computer based resource to hone your skills. If you have fewer than 6 weeks before your exam, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK AS YOUR SOLE RESOURCE.

Hard to beat
Previous versions of this book have been an institution in my family as my three siblings used the previous 600Q and 1000Q to take the UKCAT, all with great success. This latest edition is the enhanced version of the 1000Q (itself the enhanced version of the 600Q book) and is equally good. It provides educational material, an enormous amount of practice, and more importantly, it guides you effortlessly through the different subparts of the test. This is a must have for all medical school applicants.
