Very happy with this lamp
I already had one of these Grandrich ES-201 27 watt Desk Lamps so when an old lamp we were previously using (another brand/type) decided to literally fall apart, decided to order another of the same. Very happy with this lamp. We use one as a sewing lamp and the other as a desk lamp.

Nice lamp until the ballast fails...
I bought one of these about 6 months ago. Was a nice lamp until it quit. The ballast inside died. I called the manufacturer Grandrich and they apparently do not have a warranty because all they offered was to sell me a replacement ballast with shipping would be almost as much as I paid for the whole lamp. I have a useless lamp now with several spare bulbs I bought thinking the lamp would outlast the bulbs. I will find another brand of lamp these spare bulbs I have will work in but it will not be a Grandrich product.

A fine lamp for the money - until the ballast fails
I bought this lamp for my electronics workbench, and the quality seems fine at this price-point.There is some minor assembly required: you have to screw the gooseneck onto the base which was dead simple. I would suggest you pre-twist the cord a few counter-clockwise turns before putting it on the thread so as to relieve long-term stress. The metal clip holding on to the bulb only seems to work on one side, but that is sufficient as the bulb is so lightweight. I would have liked to have seen the entire interior surface of the hood lined in something reflective (there is a reflector directly behind the bulb, but none around the edges, just black plastic) which would have made it more efficient, but the lamp is sufficiently bright as-is for my purposes. The light is very white and intense and the gooseneck stays where you put it. I think I would have preferred to have the power switch located on the base, but where it is is OK too - it is a decent rocker switch located on the underside of the hood where it meets the gooseneck. I've had it about a week now and it's working fine.[EDIT:2011-04-01] The ballast failed. I went to the local big box hardware store and bought one of those silver & gray lights that uses the same kind of bulb and am much happier with it. Avoid this product.

Great lamp if you upgrade the ballast
So every one that reviews this lamp agrees that the ballast that comes with this is terrible. The rest of lamp is great and very affordable. I have 6 of these lamps (the 48" floor lamp version). I however went online and got upgraded ballasts for all my lamps. They cost 12 bucks and take me about 5 minutes to switch out. The wiring is color coded and I'll I need is a pair of needle nose pliers to un-crimp the wire nuts and then re-crimp with new wires. If you are thinking about getting one of these I would say go for as long as you know that you WILL need to replace the ballast eventually. Most of the ballast die within a few months. I just switch em out as soon as get them. One more thing I would like to add is that I broke the retainer clips on one of my lamps, e-mailed Grandrich, told them it was my fault and they send me a replacement for free.

Grandrich 201 Desk Lamp
Love this lamp. The Lamp base is nice and sturdy and the gooseneck adjusts easily. The full spectrum 27 watt bulb gives off clean clear lighting. Very pleased with this product.

Bad Design
The lamp never worked for me. I called the company Grandrich and they said I could be having a defective Ballast (Whatever that means). They agreed to send me one free of cost. I am waiting for the ballast to arrive. Also, the switch on/off button is right next to the bulb - you can very easily burn yourself if you accidently touch the hot bulb while switching on/off. Why couldn't they think of placing the on/off button at the base of the lamp ?
