Happy customer
Nothing to dislike. Good safety feature shuts down after three hrs. Not as hot as a hot water bottle filled with boiling water but warm enough and much safer. Unlike a hot water bottle it does not lose its heat. Happy with my purchase.

Great as a hot water bottle
I bought this to replace an electric blanket which I noticed had developed singe marks. I was a bit freaked out by this and decided that I would buy a more ‘visible‘ alternative for my cold feet.I was a bit put off by the stories of the safety shut-off mechanism which renders the product useless, as some reviewers seem to have experienced. The instructions were vague about how to avoid this - they say not to use the product when ‘partially covered’. I wondered what the point of a hot water bottle was if you couldn’t put it inside your bed. So I emailed Beurer, who clarified that it’s the control unit that can’t be allowed to get too hot (by being covered). This was easy to avoid for me as I just tuck it under my duvet and the control unit hangs outside, down the side of the bed. The other issue is that it can’t be scrunched or sharply folded as this will damage the wires and trigger the safety shut off. They recommended that I use it to heat the bed and then remove it before sleeping. Some nights I have fallen asleep with it in the bed, but I’m not a fidgety sleeper and it’s been absolutely fine. The heat is great for my purposes - I usually use the middle setting which is plenty for heating up the bed. It switches itself off after 90 minutes by which time I don’t need it anymore, but if I do, I can just turn it on again.I have noticed the control unit getting warm if it’s plugged in all night, but this hasn’t caused any problems. I‘ve waited a good 5 months before writing this review so I can be confident in recommending it. It’s a well made, high quality product and perfect for use as a hot water bottle. I’m thinking of buying another one for my daughter who sometimes steals mine!

Design and advertising blurb is misleading so in my opinion this product is not fit for purpose.
This product is clearly designed to mimic a hot water bottle and on the listing it even states:“BEATS A HOT WATER BOTTLE: With consistent and controllable warmth and no need for boiling water, the HK44 is the fuss-free way to beat the chill”In the supplied user manual it has no mention that the product should not be placed in a bed, however hidden away on a double sided multi-language A4 sheet of paper (see photo), it states:“- never turn on when it is partially covered (for example by a pillow)”…but what use is a hot water bottle that you cannot place in the bed to warm it prior to getting in. If it can’t be used as a bottle water bottle replacement then the manufacturer should make it a different shape, and stipulate very clearly in the listing that it is indeed only a heat pad, and that it must not be covered. Also, the fact that apparently the fitted thermal cutout basically kills the unit completely if ever triggered means that a single overheat will result in the product becoming totally useless. With modern technology as it is there is absolutely no reason why a thermal cutout can’t be fitted that automatically resets itself after a sufficiently cool down period. The design and advertising for this product is therefore misleading, and I would therefore argue that it’s not fit for purpose!

It’s fab
Husband requires this for his hip. Used to use hot water bottle. Now uses this a lot. So rather then short lived heat, now gets longer lasting heat.Worth the money!

It's important to realise this has a non-avoidable Safety System
This hot "non-water" bottle is actually excellent in many respects. It heats up fast. It covers most of the area. It has several settings. The controller unit lights up when it's heating. However, it has one pretty major flaw - it has an inbuilt "Beurer Safety System" that deliberately and irreversibly destroys your device if it detects over heating. It will not disengage the heating until a certain time has passed. It will not disengage the heating until it measures the temperature and thinks it's OK. It will just blat your bottle. It will cut-out and never start up again. There is no reset procedure for this. There's nothing you can do about it. I do not disagree with the cut-out for safety reasons - not at all - but it should cut-out until a time later when it decides it's OK to start heating again - not cut-out the first time it decides it's not safe, and then never ever work again. I suggested to the company a timer (the hardware is already inside the bottle for that so it would just be programming) or a thermal limiter of some kind (if it's too hot then drop the heat setting down one notch) or even a pin-type reset button you see on other electronic devices... still a pain to do, and would ensure people don't want to do it all the time... but at least your investment wouldn't go down the the pan the first time the bottle itself decides it got too hot. It's a nice bottle with this, for me, major flaw.
