More compact than I expected, but I don't doubt the capacity, so that's good. Handles are good and strong, no problem lifting it when full of oat groats. Initially I thought the rubber seal had gone in twisted, but it was just the impression left by the edge of the barrel. I teased it out, washed it and left it to dry, and it returned to its completely round profile. Be careful not to break the glued join where the ends meet if you try this.The metal band was tricky to put on at first, but became suspiciously easy soon after. I think it really is just a matter of ensuring everything is lined up. But I admit I used it for two weeks with no lid and the metal band installed to hold a liner bag in place (using it temporarily as a recycling bin.) It's possible this helped somehow, so when I did start using the lid again it was easier. Maybe a long-shot idea to try if you are having continued problems sealing the lid?Having said that, you may not even need to use the metal band if there is no risk of knocking over the container. You will get a pretty good seal without it, especially if you stack something on top.

Use these for storing dog food in so keeps it fresh and keeps dogs from ripping bags open etc, these fit a large 15kg bag of food in the perfectly! Keeps pests out of food also

Use it to store 15kg bag of dog kibble and does the job perfectly. Initial strong plastic smell cleared after a few hot washes and does not taint the food, which has not softened as the lid is air tight as far as I can tell. Only slight reservation is that the metal clip is a bit fiddly and can catch fingers if not used carefully: this is the only thing that denies 5 stars...
