Hi, i am a novice. i don't understand where does this device go. have 4 wires in the thermostat and need to add 5th to work with remote sensor. thx

Essentially, this device provides the missing 5th wire. You will install it at your furnace, near the wiring block to which your thermostat is currently connected. It will need to be mounted onto a metal surface, fairly close to the furnace wiring block. Also, you will need to buy some thermostat wire (it comes in multi-foot lengths but you'll only need a few feet at most) with 5 or 6 conductors. The device has an input connection (4 screw connections) and an output connection (6 screw connections). You will find where your existing thermostat wire connects to the furnace (take pictures of everything before you disconnect anything). These 4 wires will connect to the input side if the device. You will then use a length of the new thermostat wire that you bought to connect the output of the device to the furnace wiring block that will include 4 wires that take the place of the old wire, plus two more wires that will provide your new thermostat with the control voltage necessary for it to operate properly. This answer describes the basic operation and purpose of the device (to add a necessary control wire where previously one did not exist). Remember to take many "before" pictures to which you can refer during the changeover process. Google the part number of the device and you'll discover many potentially helpful installation tutorials to guide you more precisely through the specific steps (and you may even be able to find a tutorial that is specific to your type of furnace). Review a few of the tutorials until you gain a better understanding of the process, then proceed. The connections may not be an exact match so you may have to adapt the connection process to accommodate your unique situation (as was the case with my furnace). Study the tutorials and map the connections out on paper (referring back to your pictures) before you disconnect anything. Plan ahead and you can do it. Good luck.

can I use this with Honeywell RTH9580 to turn 5 wire into 6 wire?

Where do you get wires gor this to furnace?

Depending on the number of wires you have you can purchase multiconductor cables at hardware stores or from Amazon- check out Southwire 64169622 and Southwire 64170422. Note; unless the cables are extremely short or the module has to be installed far from where the cables are presently running, or far from the furnace board, the existing cables can be snipped and reused (you need to be able to cut a short piece for the NEW C wire from the module to the furnace, the others are reused)
