British writing and acting at its best! It will make you laugh out loud, but it contains an awful lot of sadness too. I sobbed bitterly at one point. It is comforting, uplifting and portrays human frailty in all its forms… but mainly revealing the strength, support and love within families and community

Funny, sad at times but always brilliant. I won't give away the story but well worth a watch (I have seen it 6 times).

Yes, it was a wonderful experience to watch it. Bittersweet, with the lovable Dad being destroyed by a gambling addiction and causing heartbreak all around, but a happy ending due to the wisdom and support of his own Dad who holds the family together. Much humour, especially about working on the bin collections and pretending to be a pilot in the Red Arrows! Son and Grandson is a fantastic little boy through whose eyes we see many things. There is sadness and and a death, but we see transformations in the GA meetings, with huge hope for addicts. The final shot is a massive Wow Factor. Scenery with the canals and hills around Marple and Mellor, near Stockport, is exciting if you know the area. Laughter and tears and hope - a little treasure for the bargain price!

One of the funniest tv shows written in a long while, similar to Early Doors. Be warned you will sob your heart out, it gets me every time I watch it, the story blindsides you with the humour then a sad twist but you do not mind, as you have opened your heart to people in the show and have empathy with almost all of their lives and what life throws at them. Heartwarming British writing at its best, this will become a classic, so buy it, open up your heart wide and spread the word that life can make you laugh but sometimes it can make you cry eitherway your in for the story. I am a 38 year old male who is not afraid to say this series hit all my emotional hooks in my body but I enjoyed the journey the show took me on and I will be crying again next time I see it. GB

Purchased this as I am a fan of Cash / Mealey and series such as Early Doors / Royle Family together with the excellent reviews given. I never saw this series when it originally aired but am so glad I have seen it now, brilliantly written, both funny and sad (the end of the final episode is 'perfect'). Shame it is only 3 episodes but anymore would have dragged out the story too much - as already said quality over quantity!At this price with free p&p it is a bargain for a night in viewing and something that you can watch over and over again!

saw this on the telly when it was first shown and loved it !unfortunately my wife didn't see it so when i saw this on amazoni bought it.it's a wonderfully acted part by steve coogan (who i don't normally like)and also bernard hill, yosser hughes to those who remember boys from theblack stuff !steve plays a compulsive gambler who only wants the best for his familybut by gambling he puts his mariage in danger.a wonderfully funny /sad heart warming film that should have won awards.

this movie is an excellent family veiwer,or for any one over the age of 16,full of laughts and a few tears,but well put together,and acted by all the cast,most actors you will recognise from other comedy series,in my opininon this three part series on one dvd is top rated for a night in,i watched it because one of my residents in the shelterd housing in wich we live appears as an extra,but i was sorry then to have missed it on tv a few years ago. so out and buy it now,you wont be dissapointed,Dennis
