A New Tune A Day for Violin (Book 1) Paperback – 1 Sept. 2005

This is a review for the Kindle Edition with enhanced audio. Unfortunately enhanced audio only plays on certain devices and this doesn't appear to include the Kindle App for Android or PC, only Kindle HD, Fire and I-devices. It does state this under the title, but as this is the first enhanced audio book I have purchased it didn't occur to me that it wouldn't work on one of the apps (like a lot of customers I had just looked at the title, description, reviews and price with an Amazon purchase). This is obviously disappointing as the audio would really lift what is a really good book. Refunds do not appear to be available as it is an ebook that I have opened.I used the original book over 20 years ago so it was my first point of call when I returned to the violin this week (this time seeing how far I can get before introducing myself to an unsuspecting victim - sorry, I mean tutor!). The layout and content appears very similar with step by step ways of reading music, holding the bow and violin and making a noise that doesn't sound like my cats needing fed A lot of the lessons rely on you playing along with your tutor (or the embedded music / CD) to get the full effect, but usable without them - hence why the embedded audio would have really lifted the book.It is still very early days of course, but if you are interested in this book I would recommend the paper version with CD. I just wanted to write a very quick review to guide people away from the ebook if you don't have the appropriate devices, however if you do, great stuff!I hope this was helpful and good luck!

I am going through this book with my violin teacher at the moment, although there are a lot of songs I have never heard of before. But half of the book is really useful and it has helped me progress. I would recommend if you are starting out on violin. However, you would need lessons to follow up on this to make sure that you have the correct technique. I was holding the bow incorrectly but that wont show in the book.

I love the book - it explains the basics and helps you build up an understanding at a good pace, introducing techniques such as staccato along the way. It's exactly what I was looking for.But where's Book 2? I bought this assuming I'd be able to progress through a series of books in the same format. Got the basics under my belt, keen to move on and develop - but no further books seem to exist. It's pretty disappointing.

the book is very informative and has every thing you need for the beginner this is book 1 so when i finish getting through this i will look to buy book 2, yes it has a CD and though that has a tuning help, i would recommend buying a tuner either electronic or pitch pipes easy to use and cheep to buy. the secret is of course practice. and with any book or tutorial thats not the books fault if you are just to lazy...

Other half totally delighted with book, already a few pages ahead! Though it's always recommended that if you want to learn the violin; make sure you go to a qualified teacher who has done the exams for teaching and use these books as a guide and reference to fall back on and for the tunes as well.

I have been learning how to play the violin with this book for some months now, and it has helped me beyond words. It has made my learning easy and pleasurable, and I highly recommend it. It looks like it has all the basic information included, along with very very nice tunes to mess around with. I highly recommend it! :D

I remember using these books when I was at primary school. (I'm 45 now)When my daughter took up violin lessons, she asked me to get her a tutorial book.I didn't bother to look at any of the other music books as I know these are good.It even has some of the same songs that I had learnt on my tenor horn all those years ago.

I was expecting a DVD as on the book cover it says DVD edition.It also says video and audio online but it's a present and the recipient really wanted a DVD.
