Everything wrong about society in the 90's in eleventy billion words or less....
I adore Jilly Cooper books. But. This book really hasn't stood the test of time. In today's climate of "me too" and operation Yew Tree, it basically highlights everything that was wrong about society that led us to where we are now. Middle aged men lusting after teenage (very young) girls, underaged sex between children and statutory rape of girls and even boys ( female teacher and teenaged boy). and terrible sexist comments from even beloved characters like Rupert. As for the terrible racism.... Really. I'm listening to it on audible because it's the only one of her books I just couldn't get into back when it was released. I'm soldiering in but I can't wait for it to end. It's absolutely awful. Sorry Jilly 😢

Not my favourite
To be honest this is my least favourite of all the books in this series. Mainly because I just find it a little off putting in a book for adults to find so much underage sex going on, just makes me a little uncomfortable. The writing and the story are just as good as any of the others in the series. If you like the style of Jilly Cooper and don't mind reading about 13 year olds having sex you'll probably like this one just as much.

"Wicked!" is the first Jilly Cooper book I've ever read-I've heard great things about the Rutshire Chronicles, so I decided to give this a try. It's a very long book and I waded through it because I've heard such good things about Jilly Cooper's novels. I wasn't so keen on this one however. Characters which are present up until roughly a third of the way through the book suddenly disappear, and the the plot takes bizarre twists and turns which left me a little incredulous- by the end I just couldn't suspend my disbelief for that long. But some of the characters, particularly Lily and Dora, are just fantastic and they were responsible for me finishing the book to the end. I would read other Jilly Cooper books- there are around 10 Rutshire chronicles, so I'm sure the best is yet to be read.

I haven't read any Jilly Cooper in years but when ...
I haven't read any Jilly Cooper in years but when I saw this on Amazon for 99p and that it was set in schools I thought that it was time to give her another go.The book is very much in the style of her other books, some of which I've read. It is containing some reoccurring characters- interesting to see how some of them have developed over the years. Many of her characters are real caricatures but there are many who really do capture your heart. I did find some of the under age sex rather disturbing. Some of the events were also very far fetched- but then you don't read Jilly Cooper for reality! This book had me laughing out loud, cringing and reaching for the tissues- there are a couple of bits I found really pulled at the heart strings.I raced through this book and although in all honesty I couldn't give it five stars I do find myself missing all those 'Wicked' characters!

A disappointment
What a disappointment. I so loved all the previous Rutshire books but this one wasn't a patch on them. I soldiered on to the half way point (500 pages no less!) and just couldn't face the thought of the rest. If it hadn't been for the other poor reviews I would have thought I had simply outgrown Jilly Cooper's works but it seems I am not alone in my feelings. There's a massive cast of characters, all of which are fairly unlikable, an awful lot of underage sex and a story that just goes on and on. What a shame!

Doesn't matter how grown up you are, you can still be Wicked!
I've had this title on my to read list for years and finally picked it up last week. I have just finished it and have to say I utterly loved it. It made me laugh, cry, rage and whoop over and over again! The subject matter can be rather disturbing at times so with warning it is definitely not for the faint hearted!!!I would highly recommend reading all of the Rutshire Chronicles in order before picking this one up, with the inclusion of so many prior protagonists it will thoroughly enhance your experience of the novel.

EXCELLENT
i have the complete collection in paperback along with many other authors and series, so my husband bought me a kindle and i bought the whole collection again!! i love the characters especially R C-B and Declan O Hara and thry pop up in many of the follow-up books, though each book tells a whole new story with new lovable characters.

Awful cliches and too close to the bone
Compared to her other books this is really poor and she has tried to squeeze a number of larger stories into one. Also it must be noted that she really cuts too close to the bone on a paedophile ring story, which given it's gravitas is done in a rather humoured manner. The book also plays on every cliché possible including rather homophobic pieces on gay and lesbian characters. Dissappointing and won't be reading any more.
