The Tractor Book: The Definitive Visual History (DK Definitive Transport Guides)

The title says it all. If you just required one book about the history and development of the farm tractor, this is the one to have. The text is very informative and the pictures are typical DK ( In other words stunning ) OK there is the odd mistake , for example on page 158 it says The Massey Ferguson 1080 was fitted with a Perkins 6 cylinder engine. It wasn't, it was actually fitted with a Perkins A4.318 engine having 4 cylinders ( Had it been fitted with a Perkins 6 cylinder like it's bigger sister The 1100 it would probably have been a better tractor, but that's another story! ) That does not distract from it being a 5 star book and my little boy (Who too young to read yet ) loves looking at the gorgeous photos with me.

This is a really nice book. Worth every penny

A large book full of the history of the most popular and not so popular tractor brands replete with many good pictures.

I bought this book for a friend. It's a solid, almost-encyclopaedic exploration of the history of various forms of farm machinery, with a huge number of illustrations, descriptions and colour photographs. I know next to nothing about tractors, but my friend was very enthusiastic. He said he would have liked a little less emphasis on American vehicles, and more about the UK, but generally, he said it offered information all together that he hasn't been able to find before.

I bought it for my brother's 80th birthday. He was really pleased. Must have given lots of memories due to the date range of equipment.

Gave it as a present to a old friend & neighbour who in the course of his work had used many in book He ( and his daughters ) were delighted

Recipient loved it despite commenting that several key tractors weren't included so it wasn't as definitive as the title suggests. They also found many inaccuracies and thought many of the technical details were lacking. But then they're an agricultural engineer and have spent a lifetime collecting and restoring tractors... On a positive it's a great looking book with great pictures of a good selection of tractors. On a negative it's not a definitive guide contrary to the title, and if you give it to a tractor afficienado they will find plenty of faults. Don't buy expecting lots of detailed info either - you'd be better off with a book that specifically focuses on an individual make or model for something more in-depth. But if you want a decently comprehensive collection with basic info all in one book, then this is ideal!

This book was for my dad (hes 83) Lots of pictures and stories about the tractors. He enjoyed it. I'd say 5 star review.
