Excellent little alarm. Loud, clear, and offers peace of mind.
So far so good. The unit is operating and the alarm sounds very loudly. I hope I never have to use it, but it's there if the need arises. PROS: 1. There is a small display which shows how much carbon monoxide can be detected wherever the unit is placed. Mine reads '0' and this is very reassuring to see. 2. A large test button allows you to check that the unit operates a should. It emits a series of loud beeps, so even if you were asleep at the time, this unit would almost certainly wake you up. 3. Clear instructions. The instructions were very easy to follow. There are a few places where this unit should not be placed, and so having this explained clearly is very important. 4. Batteries included. The unit came with quality batteries (Duracell) which is nice. Often alarms come with an obscure brand of battery, but these are good quality. 5. The unit is wall mountable. It even comes with plugs and screws. CONS: I can't fault this alarm at all. I trust that it works well, and offers me peace of mind. Overall, I would recommend this alarm to anyone who doesn't have one. carbon monoxide can be a killer, and for the price of a takeaway meal, you should protect yourself and your family.

Simple to use. Perfect!
This unit comes with batteries and full instructions. Plug in the batteries and it switches on. Press the test button and it takes a reading of the current levels. The instructions also list the levels you should be aware of and the unit will bleep in various manners to alert you to the danger of CO (Carbon monOxide). At any time you can press the button and it will display the highest reading taken. This allows you to monitor levels and take the appropriate action. The unit lifespan is over 5 years. You just need to replace the batteries. The batteries supplied are eco-friendly. Two screws and wall plugs are also supplied so that it can be mounted on a wall. Directions for selecting the best location are supplied with the instructions. I loved the price.

Nice looking, as they go...
I didn't feel I could give an alarm 5 stars simply because it's an alarm. No other reason. So, what does it do? Well, if you press the 'test' button it makes a hell of a noise. Apart from that it just sits there and a green light flashes every now and again. Ours has '0' in the LCD window, which I believe is a good thing. It looks good and feels weighty and robust. It's a neat, small unit. However I don't believe that any of these have any bearing on it's functionality. I hope I never hear it when I shouldn't, in which case it's done it's job. Or rather, it hasn't. If you see what I mean. However, if at some time in the future it saves my life I will consider it an absolute bargain. I have smoke alarms too, which do a similar thing, but they're different. So you need both. Buy them. They could save your life and the lives of those closest to you, saving your family the hell that follows needless tragedy.

Peace of mind
My boiler is getting quite old now, thirteen years to be exact. Whilst it still works just fine I had read some horror stories of people who nearly killed themselves due to carbon monoxide poisoning. I started to convince myself that I was having similar symptomes, feeling tired, dizzy, just out of sorts etc. I decided £20 was a small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing that there wasn't any leak of CO2 from the boiler. The unit seemed well made and was easy to understand and setup. It is well thought out and gives a no nonsense display of any dangerous levels of gas. I haven't bothered to put it on a wall, its just sits on my desk in my workroom where I spend most of my time. It would also be easily heard in the bedroom if there was a problem at night. By pressing a button you can also see the highest reading over an extended period of time. Fortunately, it is always a very reassuring 0. It is hard to see how this little unit could be improved, it does just what it says on the can. So I give it a deserved 5 stars and thoroughly reccomend it. Incidently, having reassured myself that I am not being gassed to death, I now feel much better. It was probably just autosuggestion from reading the truly horrific experiences of a whole family who were unwittingly being gassed. Despite having their boiler checked and regularly serviced, none of the engineers ever spotted the problem. Their GP also never suspected the cause of the familie's symptoms. It took years to discover the cause of their illness. If only they had had one of these detectors. The moral is, don't just rely on having your boiler serviced regularly, get yourself a second line of defense, buy a CO2 detector. By the way, a smoke detector is NOT a CO2 detector, they are completely different.

Tricky at first
Bought this after all the recent incidents in the news. Arrived very quickly and was very pleased with the quality. Two problems though. In the description (On the Kidde website and in the instructions) its states that this model has a back light for the display. When I phoned the Kidde helpline I was told this is an error and there is no backlight, not a problem as the display very easy to read. The main problem I had was that I was getting a reading just below the amount that would trigger the alarm. I though I must have a problem with CO somewhere in the house so I zeroed the alarm and tried it in other locations, even outside, still getting a high reading. When I phoned the helpline I was told that this was another error in the instructions. The instruction for zeroing the alarm is to hold down the the 'Peak Level' and 'Reset' buttons together but in fact it only works if you hold down the 'Peak Level' button first and then the 'Reset' button. Did that and now all is well and getting a zero reading. Apart from the hitches with the instruction I am really pleased with the alarm and again great Amazon value.
