beautiful
An easy read with beautiful, simple wisdom that made me smile and cry. One of those books, where, you feel a bit lost once you’ve finished it.

Relatable and enlightening
Such a beautiful, enlightening book on so many levels. It has been written without any sense of preaching and is incredibly relatable. One that I will return to regularly for words of wisdom.

The most wonderful book ❤️❤️❤️
A good friend suggested this book to me.It’s not a religious book, but a beautiful story about a beautiful man that left his life to become a forest monk for 17 years. It then follows the rest of his life.I’ll read this again and again for sure ❤️

wisdom from a Buddhist monk
This book tells a quite amazing interesting story of a Swedish student who went off to become a Buddhist monk in Thailand for 17 years and other countries before leaving his cause as a monk and returning to Sweden. He then found love and also loss, the experience and description of his fathers at the end of the book really touched me.- The book is full of wisdom and wonderful stories, many of which I had heard but I still enjoyed listening to again and pondering on their messages. Some understanding and explaining of the life of a monk in the lessons they learn were lovely. A few ideas that are worth noting for me:- I always love the starfish story. A girl walks along a beach seeing hundreds of starfish drying in the Sun and is throwing them from the beach back into the sea. An old man says what’s the point, you can’t save all these, what difference will you make. And as the girl throws another star fish in the sea, and says ‘it made a difference to that one’.- One of my favourite lessons was when one of the monks taught a simple message to say to yourself when you are feeling troubled saying "I may be wrong, I may be wrong, I may be wrong,". That's a good thing to try to remember - we seem to be so certain of everything so it's worth wondering if you are actually right - you might be wrong. A fool is certain of everything and the wisest man knows how little he knows - and knows he might be wrong, something the fool doesn’t worry about when he probably is. Nice look at meditation also.

A very thoughtful memoir
A very thoughtful memoir of an interesting person. Someone not afraid to take risks and live radically. Someone who does not take himself too seriously. An enjoyable read.

The perfect read
This was our book club read. I bought the paperback version, as I knew I'd end up wanting to highlight parts and re-reading it. It's sn easy read, with lots of profound statements. He sounded like an amazing character. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing book
This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I read it in a few days, which being a busy mum, is really good for me. He lived a fascinating life, which was certainly not for everyone. But his commitment to this life was admirable and quite astounding. I read this at quite a stressful time and I can honestly say it has changed for me for the better. I never thought a book could do that! I can highly recommend this book if anyone is considering it.

What an honest author!
The author sounds so honest about his life journey. He doesn't try to hide the troubles he had on meditation time and the terrible depression he suffered after he returned to the secular world.

Cherish life, it's very precious
I was attracted by the book title and the life lived by the writer. He's been very true to himself....not easy in our culture. His insights of life will influence how I live my life.

Deep wisdom, humility - a great awakening source
I enjoyed every page, every thought behind this book. I am no follower of Budhism and for me the book is not about Budhism but its ability to shake me out of a slumber with its wisdom and messages in practically every page. Also it was great to read that the monks, and gurus have their own insecurities and character defects that need to be worked on, and despite the efforts of years one can fall again into darkness again!

Very grateful for this book!
This book honestly changed my way of thinking in the best possible way. I read it in one day, after having experienced a terrible earthquake. It helped me to stay calm and to handle overwhelming thoughts / fear I have never experienced before.
