Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar (Troy Stetina) (Includes Online Access Code): Becoming the Best You Can Be!/Book and Cd

Improve the speed and precision of your playing.
I have a few of Troy Stetina's books. They are all very methodically laid out and as long as you follow the authors advice, you WILL improve. This book is excellent in terms of the amount of information given on each section, very in depth and almost as good as having your own personal tutor! I will be adding the others in the series to my collection as time (and money) allow.I would also recommend this book to anyone not necessarily into playing Metal guitar. Use the advice and exercises to generally improve the speed and precision of your playing. The only criticism of this and the other Troy Stetina books I have is that the CD is copied from an earlier edition which obviously used tape and is not broken down into small enough "chunks". This makes accessing certain licks etc sometimes a bit tedious. However, as the accompanying text is that good, the book would be very useful even without a CD.

Excellent, does what it says!
This is truly a great book. I have loads of instructional books on lead guitar playing, and this is the very best when it comes to developin speed and technique. It's got great tips on how to practice, and tons of great exercises. If you stick with it, your speed is definitely going to improve quite quickly. The licks and runs provided for practicing can also be used for your own solos, and to develop your own ideas. I personally really enjoyed the fact that the book contains the song 'flight of the bumblebee' in tab notation, as it is something different from the usual rock/metal I normall play. In short, this book really really helped me, if you want to improve your speed, buy this and work through it. This has worked way better for me than any instructional dvd/book (apart from maybe paul gilbert instructional dvds - they are awesome, too!).

Is what it says on the cover
Hi there. This book is good if you need a bit of speed in your play. I was gonna say it's not for the country player etc but that would be wrong. It teaches you what to play and how to play it and then on the CD you hear that it is possible. You will realise how honest and simple the book is after you have read it from the start and tried a few excercises. He brings it down to the bare basics, you have 4 fingers on one hand and a pick in the other and here's how to open them up!It's designed for the guitarist who hates to learn... the man who looks at written music and is blind to it will work out Ok with this book. It's simple tabs, and it's all explained at the start... Easy Peasy!!By the time you get to the end of the book (4-5 weeks) you'll kick ass!!If you want to solo then this is the obvious choice but if your clever then you'll use this in all rhytm sets.Better to know it than not too if you're serious about playing guitar, whatever style.Kind regards to you and appreciation to Troy Stetina for putting this lesson together.

Superb tutor in metal lead guitar for those with discipline!
A fantastic collection of licks, riffs and lead breaks which will transform your shred playing - many of the exercises you can simply take verbatim and incorporate into solos as they are. On the downside, you will need considerable time and commitment to master these licks - some riffs have taken me months to learn. but well worth it in the end. minus one star for perhaps, lack of variety - after a while the licks do get a bit samey but this really is a minor quibble. fantastic book for those who can put the time in.

This book is a good book...
Really does what it says on the tin. Focuses very heavily on the mechanical-ability side of playing guitar, there are some interesting study pieces in it and lessons that are beneficial from lower level players to advanced players. It does touch on music theory in places, but doesn't really reinforce it. The title is Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar though, so it is not to be expected really. It is probably most beneficial to players who want excel with the more technical guitar styles, but the exercises are such that they'll increase dexterity. I play mainly classic rock and blues, and I've found them useful. This is not a one stop shop for all you need to know about music, but if you want to become a more technical guitar player, this is the book for you.

Perfect read on practise and improving technique
This book is almost perfect! It inspired me a lot, changed the way I practise and after a month of just doing exercises 1-5 and exercise 25, my technique improved considerably. If you stick to this, you will become much better player, and this applies not only to metal, but to any genre really. Really recommend any book by Stetina, he is great teacher.

A Great Resource!
A quality resource in speeding up lead guitar. The exercises start from simple and build up to more elaborate patterns. Practice makes perfect and if you practice enough, the exercises really do help. stretching and articulating the fingers and distance from fretboard are three primary factors covered. Recomened!

Ottimo
Un libro per apprendere la meccanica delle dita perfetto. Gli esercizi sono mirati e aiuta ad aprire la mente nel girare con le mani sulla tastiera. Consigliato.

It's not for the faint of heart or absolute beginners.
but if you are unfaint of heart and willing to take things slow and steady, there is a lot to learn here.
