Guitar Fretboard Workbook

Brilliant.
I love this book. Guitar theory for the beginner can seem overwhelming, I feel I have been making slow and steady progress with it however from using multiple sources. This book however is massively different simply because your not just staring and diagrams mashing your brain to bits. The simple fact it explains the exercise then you work through the book filling it in yourself really makes a huge difference. The point is this book will work depending on how you like to learn everyone is different and will learn from different stimuli, but I'm not a brilliant visual learner so reading normally isn't my best learning trait with this book however I can read, work it out by physically drawing or writing, then as if by magic the information is imbedded on my mind when I pick up the guitar itself. The break down is logical and in my eyes perfect for learners such as myself.

A thorough and accessible grounding for guitarists.
This takes the mystery out of the guitar fretboard and provides a useful framework to help anyone map it out in their mind. Very practical with clear guidance on how to make sure you actually learn. It builds from basic beginner level to Grade 5 theory and beyond, enabling you to build chord and melodic passages anywhere on the fretboard in any key and any style.

Knowledge is dangerous
This is an excellent book for any one who wants to learn the theory of guitar. It enables you to go at your own pace and pick the book up or down at any time you want. I have been a guitarist for just over 4 years and I know a bit on theory anyway but wanted this book to polish up and make my knowledge bullet proof. It is certainly doing that so far. It enables you to understand what you are playing and why.I spent a lot of time in the begging or the book drilling and grinding the basics into my head and fingers, as a result it is paying off enormously as my soloing has improved ten fold. I now knot what notes to hit specificly to achieve the mood or affect I want. Saying the exercises out loud and doing them in pencil to go over them again and again really does help as silly as it sounds.I haven't yet completed the book but so far every page is offering me that little bit more. Highly recommend to any one that loves guitar.

Best guitar book I've ever bought.
This book is transformative for harmonic awareness. By the end you will feel really at one with the neck, no stone unturned. If I could make it a legal requirement for all beginner guitarists to complete this book I would. A solid foundation to build from.

Back to school type learning
I've played guitar for a few years and know my chords etc, but have always felt that not sitting down and learning the fretboard has held me back. I decided to grasp the nettle and and start learning again from scratch. Most tuition books just tell you what's what, but that can be a bit dull and tends to go in one ear and out of the other. For that reason I thought I'd try a new approach by using this fretboard workbook. It explains the different patterns and notes that make up scales etc, but complements it with diagrams that you have to fill in yourself so that you really have to think it through and it therefore it sticks in your mind much better. It also suggests you say the notes and positions out loud as you play them - that seems a bit odd initially - but it all seems to help reinforce the message. It can feel a bit like being back at school, filling out fret diagrams and learning patterns on the guitar neck, but it's a means to an end and it has certainly helped me.

LEARNING GUITAR THEORY IS FUN!
This is the 1st book I've ever bought which gives a clear & easy way to actually learn & understand basic music theory & how musical notes are constructed ON YOUR OWN without a guitar teacher!. A very useful book for anyone at all levels. I've been playing guitar for many years without really understanding the theory behind it, for the sheer lack of a good guitar instruction book of this nature. Learning is fun with this book, even for an experienced guitarist. The "5 Caged system" reveals the real secret behind how guitar scales are constructed.I will strongly recommend this book to all beginers & as well as experienced players.
